It was a big shock after 20 years working in manufacturing and having nearly 2 weeks off at Xmas - and the fact I worked out the years holidays so I always ensured we all had Xmas eve off, to working in retail. I book Xmas eve off as the floating day, and then I have to go back to work after Boxing day as its usually our period end and we accounts to do.
Its only been a couple of years ago the bigger stores started opening on a Boxing day, I think its just a matter of time before we'll be told to work boxing day and all other bank holidays.
As for travelling, from 12:30pm Xmas Eve I don't go out again till boxing day - and then its only a short car journey.
