I have found it the other way around .....never had to claim for any damage due to high winds or floods (they would have to be building a new ark for that one)
I guess you're in a high place, then. But flash flooding can strike anywhere. Although we're quite high on a hill, the road was just slightly higher, so every time there was a thunderstorm we had to bale out the garage and stand with brooms, sweeping the water away! Sometimes our efforts were in vain, and the water gushed in right to the back of the garage. I got some pallets and kept everything which could be flood-damaged on those, but it was a pesky situation. Eventually we got tired of it and had a drain with a grid put in across the front, which was expensive, but very effective.
We also have fence panels right down both sides of our property, and have to keep a contingency fund for replacement panels, as we lose at least two or three to high winds every year, sometimes a whole line of them. That isn't covered by insurance, so it's an ongoing expense. We've had to have roof repairs because of the wind too, and lost all the insulation on the shed roof, had the TV aerial displaced and had to have someone sort it out, and we had damage to the car a few years ago when the wheelie-bin got blown clean across the patio and hit it full-on the side.
The most damage we've ever had from snow is a rose bush which toppled over with the weight, but we were able to stake it back up when everything thawed.
I think the ice is more of a worry to us, and we have to keep an eye on the pipes, keeping low heat on in the house while we're away.
So I suppose it all depends on where you live.I see you're in County Durham, ST1100, and I imagine the volume of snow is greater there than here in the Severn Valley. We get very cold temperatures in winter - some of the coldest in the country - but we don't usually get enormous volumes of the fluffy white stuff, so we don't tend to get the damage.
Now I've said that, though...
Just off to touch wood...
