You are quite right about younger people being employed rather than those of us over a "certain age" and the reason is money, plain and simple.  Under 18s can be employed on zero hours contracts, part time hours as and when the employer wants them, no holiday pay, no sick pay, for £3.72 an hour.   Whiile this is the case, those of us with experience looking for reasonable pay and conditions are in for a long wait.

It has always been difficult to find a job once you turned 50 but now it's almost impossible.

Just read Aderynlas's post...couldn't agree more.

To sum up, whilst the powers that be have you arguing amongst yourselves, you are not questioning them.  Enough said.

Because of course, " everyone without a job is feckless and workshy" -   you only have to read some of the comments on this forum to 'know' that

Why is it that most people have swallowed the propaganda about "workless people" especially "workless young people" being lazy and wanting to live off benefits?

Most people in work recieve benefits in the forms of tax credits and child tax credits.

So the biggest benefit scroungers are the businesses that employ loads of people but don't pay them enough to live on or give them enough hours.

Tax Credit may help workers make ends meet, but they finance the likes of Tesco, ASDA, McDonalds (name any multinational employer you like) and of course the companies owned and run by those in government.

Meanwhile the MPs get their benefits in the form of (cough cough) expenses, whilstputting out the propaganda that anyone on benefits is a scrounger living the high life.

And worst of all, we common folk swallow the lie and beat each other (and ourselves)   up for not being able to find a job

Sorry for the rant, it really gets to me sometimes
