Hi,
I have read several posts from women who camp solo, this is something I do too :) I wondered if we could maybe start a Facebook page and perhaps give each other advice, swap experiences & the occasional get-together? I will be sixty next month, so no spring chicken but still very adventurous. I live in Scotland. Anyone else interested?

Happy camping .... Stella

You don't say whereabouts in the Highlands you live but quite coincidentally I'm coming up to Arisaig for eight days from June 1st.

I've been camping solo for three years now and write a blog of my camping trips but I don't 'do' Facebook. Tbh I've no interest in it at all, though I'd be quite happy to share any advice, hints, tips and experiences through posts on these forums. Getting together with other solo lady campers is a great idea but might prove a tad tricky depending on where people live and how far they would be prepared to travel to meet up, but there would be nothing to stop you from posting in the 'meeting up' section to guage any interest.

I think the two biggest problems with organising any sort of meet are the distances people are prepared to travel to a site and finding a date convenient to everyone. Although I'd be interested in meeting up with other solo lady campers there's no way I would drive all the way up to Scotland to do it if it was only for a weekend, likewise anyone in Scotland probably wouldn't want to drive all the way down here.

I think in many instances one person will decide to go somewhere for a weekend then puts a thread on here inviting others to join them at whichever site they are going to, then it's up to the relative individuals whether or not they go - something like that would be an alternative to organising a proper meet.

I was going to say the same as Tigermouse - meets are great, but can only attract people wihing a certain travelling distance.

I started camping on ,y own, with the two kids the year my husband didn't bother to book time off, and my brother was told by his lovely boss, that as he didn't have anything booked, and no kids, that he, despite having booked the time off to come with us, couldn't have it off, as they were short staffed that week.   It was either go solo or loose the holiday.   Have now been solo with them on several occasions.

As a Facebook addict I would join a page.

To those who are thinking of goign solo, I would say go for it.    If you are unsure, go somewhere local for the weekend, just to make sure that you know how to pitch solo.   Also if you really do not like it, it isn't far for you to come home.
When we first started camping, we weren't too sure if the kids would like it, so we went an hour from home, with the idea that one of us could always run th kids home if thye really hated it, and the other take down the tnet, and follow. As it was they took to it like a duck to water.
Choose somewhere family friendly if you have kids.

I would be interested in meet ups in easy reach of London :) as long as they were reachable by public transport

I am envious of you going to Arisaig Tigermouse - I'd love to go there to see where the SOE people trained

Hello Girls, thanks for the replies and the advice, I know meet-ups are difficult to arrange, I posted as there seems to be no web sites for female campers in the UK, there are many women who blog and their adventures are really good to read about but no site to share adventures or ask for advice. This forum is really good but one site that can be accessed easily by many would be a benefit to all.
I know some people are anti facebook for many reasons but it does have the biggest audience and information is instant ... Of course I am a big FB fan, having used it for many years, just get your privacy settings right :)
I already run a page for an historic building we going to bring back into community use and that is very successful.
I will open a page for women campers and post the link here .... See what happens!
Thanks again

Hi Abfabstell,

I camp regularly, and if no one comes with me then it becomes a solo camp - ie. just me, not kids, dogs, etc. Occasionally I manage to be the only tent on site out of season, and then I really am on my own. I don't worry about being alone any more and love doing all the tenty things myself. However, on balance I'd prefer to have a bit of company.

I'll keep an eye on this thread as it sounds interesting. There's a heap of places in the Highlands I'd like to visit, so will maybe bump into you somewhere.

Hi Sarah, just let me know if your up my way, it would be lovely to meet you.

I have opened a facebook page, it is public view, at the moment but will have it by acceptance if I get a few likes.

There is obviously very little on the page at the moment but I hope it will grow :) On fb girls who love camping. Stella

I camp on my own with the dog because I prefer it that way.

Besides, I plan well in advance, and by the time someone mention about getting together, I am already planning and possibly booked for the following year.

I sometimes get away camping on my own and would be interested in your FB page - although I'm nowhere near you for meets but I would be interested in being updated on all the female bloggers. Tigermouse already does a fantastic blog, and I know there's a few more on here too.
