Hi Purple.....St John Newland probably hasn't changed since 1955, I swear the carpet looks that old!!!
TraceyD.....we live East Hull, so Southcoates is a lot closer to home for me now......bit of a pain when I hang hubbies FC shirt on the line though!!!!!
I feel your pain, TraceyD. I went to three schools, and two have now been demolished, the other is a funeral parlour! Then my college was pulled down in the nineties to make way for an urban clearway. Even the place where I used to go for art classes on Saturday morning burned down (by vandals)and had to be demolished.
The school where my kids went, and where I worked for 13 years, was demolished a couple of years ago too. Now they're pulling down the hall where I used to take the children to toddler group, dancing classes, have their parties and where for the last 16 years we've enjoyed the local beer festival. I feel as if the ruddy bulldozer is following me around!
We are losing our local high school where all my four children studied due to government cuts...Its only claim to fame (apart from academic) Is that it was the one used for the Film "Gregory's Girl" back in the 80's
Closure of this school means the end of our housing area..As it was a great draw for folk with children buying houses in the area...The local shops relied heavily on trade from the school...That will all go when the school shuts as will the shops soon after...
So many of our memories are related to buildings and places from our past...Sad to see so many of them flattened..Some for sound reasons...You sometimes feel your memories are being flattened as well......
Jelboy.

The secondary school that myself and OH went to is being demolished this autum. Our eldest son is due to start the same school in August but he won't be in the old one. The new state of the art school opens in August when he starts. We had a tour round the old school in November so the kids could meet the teachers. It was very strange being in the assembly hall I sat all my exams in. The school did not seem as big as I remember it being either. I will be sad to see it go, but it was falling to bits when I left it 20 years ago! We are looking forward to having a tour round the new school in June.

Now that just shouldn't be allowed in East Hull!!!!
I had a horrible time at secondary school, but did a google map search a few months ago, and did feel a pang of sadness to see it was still there in all its glory Ooops got the wrong end of the thread!
