On the day we received our new two seater sofa ( reclining action too) my partner and I agreed the dog ( Flash) would NOT be permitted on the new sofa although he was allowed onto the older one.
However we did keep the armchair for his use which Flash gently reminds us on a daily basis.
My question is do your pets have a a chair or sofa of their own or if not enough room would you have permitted one otherwise?
When my dog was a puppy we had a computer chair with arms which we were throwing out. We took the wheels off and placed it in the living room for him and he chewed the arms on it which saved him chewing the rest of the furniture. Now we just have a cover over it and he still sleeps in it.
Our dog is only aloud on the settee if there is something on there luckily he's only a jack russel cross as he will even get up if there's a pillow lying down or me for that matter, my nans dog has a 2 seater settee in the dining room where my nan always sits and her dog won't let anyone else near it (spoilt brat)
My dogs aren't allowed on the sofa or chairs at all. There's a fireside mat for them to lie on, although they often lie with heads propped up against my feet.
Depends who is around. He has a large floor cushion but likes to sleep on a cushion under a blanket at bedtime. If i am sofa sitting he joins me usually.
Our dog has a dog bed in the hall. Although more often than not I find him stretched out on the tiles moping while watching the cats stretched out on his bed. It would never occur to him to move them, he's daft as a brush.
If he's allowed in the lounge at all (when DH is away) he lies on the floor with his head on my feet. He was allowed on the sofa when he was a puppy but then he grew too big and hairy.

Two dogs here with their own beds...Not allowed on the sofa when I am about and usually quite good during the day when I am out...Night time is a different matter....Millie(the springer) Is fly enough to get off the sofa and into her bed when she hears me get up...
Ted (JR) Is either to daft/lazy to bother getting off..Or just does not care one jot weather I know hes on there or not...I haven't decided yet......
Meg my old springer would kid on she had been in her bed all night...I would see her shape through my glass door getting off the sofa and into her bed...On entering the living room I would check for body heat on the sofa...and ask her if she had been up there...I would get that "Don't be daft" look from her or even worse...her turning her head away from me in that sheepish gesture that said it all.........

Our beloved Izzy had her own sofa which she spent most of her time on....I haven't yet been able to throw it away as I occasionally think I glimpse her lying on it!
Ours sit basically where they like but we have an old sleeping bag on each sofa so they are easily slipped off and washed. Lucky as first thing puppy Betty did when we brought her home was wee on the sofa - never done it since and is incredibly clean really must have been just testing her new surroundings LOL.
With our old sofa, they shared the 2 seater with our daughter. Now, the sleep on the back of the chair, or on the sofa. There is now a dint on the back cushion of our daughters chair where they sit.
My OH has a room where he listens to his music and there is one armchair. When our darling Mossy was alive, she used to lie on the chair and OH sat on the floor! If he was on the chair she would stand and stare at him until he moved. It was so funny.
