I'm about to have a new kitchen fitted. OH has put up with the very dated old one for the last 15 years! We haved taken down a wall and so will lose a tower unit. I'm happy with bog standard appliances but will be splashing out on an oven.

Decision no 1. It will be a single built under. No room for tower.

Decision.no 2. It will be Neff. The slide and hide door has won my heart (and good baking performance too of course!)

Decision no 3. Don't need Aqua assist.(I don't think)

Decision no 4. Really can't decide which model. Does anyone have any experience of Neff series 3 or 5? Any opinions about the flexirails or oven lighting?

I don't need talking out of spending serious money but some advce as to quite how much to spend would be appreciated!

Thanks

Decision.no 2. It will be Neff. The slide and hide door has won my heart (and good baking performance too of course!) The slide away door reduces the space for the oven and stops use of floor
Decision no 3. Don't need Aqua assist.(I don't think)if you can get aqua assist or steam then go for it

I have a Rangemaster myself and recommend them. However, irrespective of make, the thing I would insist on is a seperate grill, not the sort that utilises the oven.

Thanks.
The oven will be built in so as far as i can tell the capacity is the same with either the slide door or standatd. It means that the door is not in the way when open eg when grilling

Unfortunately the aqua assist adds about £300 to the price!

I have been looking for days and need to order

I would love a range but not enough space.

The only problem with sep grill is the reduced capacity of the main oven and i do generally cook a turkey once a year.

Fogot to say. Models I'm looking at are multifunction £800-£1000.

If you don't need talking out of spending some serious money then go for a Gaggenau and leave the cheaper Neff appliances for others to ponder over. Much nicer and with all the multi-function you'd ever want.

The problem with multi function is that when one function stops working it can be big money to get the whole thing stripped down and repaired. My Last cooker was a multifunction, with a grill in the oven, I hated the thing with a passion, it prevented anything from being grilled or toasted if the main oven was in use, it was rather like having to choose between having your steak grilled or fried if the oven was already in use doing the jacket spuds or potato wedges to go with it, it really does cut down menu options for the serious cook, and theres nothing worse than having to wait to bake your cake until after the bacon butties or toasted cheese sarnies have finished using the grill, so not so good for a busy hungry family to contend with.

My latest cooker is a slot in, double oven, grill in the top oven, 4 superfast hallogen type rings, its tight fitted upto the worksurface edges using stainless steel strips, so gives the appearence of being a fully fitted cooker. It can be pulled away from the wall easily for cleaning or maintainance, and is a much better option for family cooking than the 'all in one' grill/oven/microwave combination that it replaced.

Sorry, but would never, ever, have a Neff oven again!  I revamped the kitchen in a house we bought and thought the Neff oven sounded what I wanted. It went wrong almost immediately; long wrangle between Neff and fitters during which time we had no oven. Then replacement provided and fitted by Neff approved people - lasted all of six days! Replacement given (but only after BIG complaint and more weeks without an oven) and that died within six months. Demanded money back and compensation and it was settled before the Court action but took years off my life.

Blimey.....but I have looked at quite a lot of on line reviews etc. Aqua assist doesnt fair well but the rest does. I understand about the grill but I know how i cook. If i turn the oven on then
evweything is done in that, fish fingers etc. The occasional steak tends to be fried. I really dont want a double built under because the main oven is tiny

Im quite happy with a worktop toaster

I wished I opted for a better model with Pyrolytic self-cleaning system, as I know someone who has one with this feature, and she says it makes cleaning a lot easier.

Other than that, I love my Series 3 oven, can't remember which model it was as it is nearly 7 years old!

Thanks

I have considered pyrolitic but could only have a fixed door then. It does sound good though. Is the heat distribution as even as they claim? I have been using a 20 year old oven that even though it has a fan takes 30 min to heat up and burns everyrhing if high up

Pyrolytic cleaning is amazing although I don't have a Neff. I have a Baumatic oven.

You do get used to the door sticking out and I find it much easier to work with than I expected. The door does come off for washing. I have a terrible bad back and I was worried about managing with the oven door in place but it isn't as bad as I expected. I do like the idea of a slide in door though it looks stylish.

I rarely need to remove the door for cleaning as I put the pyrolytic cycle on then just have a wipe a tiny bit of white ash out. I was amazed by how little energy the pyrolytic cycle uses. Pyrolytic cleaning doesn't clean the shelves.

My oven is a double oven the main being 65 litres.

I did find that 65 litres was perfect size for cooking family meals as I can fit 2 shelves and a roasting tray for cooking a roast dinner. 58 litres would be minimum size for a family I think.

Re oven sttings I have either 8 or 10. I use 4 grill, fan, top and bottom heat with fan, top and bottom heat. On the small lower oven I use top and bottom heat, bottom heat only and grill.

I use an electric steamer for moist cooking.

Sue your old oven sounds like my old one, I spent weeks burning food after I got my new one.

i repair and refurbish ovens,

neff ovens are well built and last well,i have an 8 yr old one at home ,

the slide away door is a gimmick it reduces the size by 1/4

the aqua clean system on ovens will get steam and water into the controls , and it will cause the oven to start to rot

the hight temp p 500 degree cleaning cycle [for 2 hrs] will eventually damage an oven

a bosch or aeg oven is also a good buy,

have a look on ebay for a seller in leics they do some great deals on ovens ,with some graded products,

My neff lasted 20 yrs, I now have Siemens which is same brand. The pyrolitic cleaning is rubbish.

And I really miss my extending rails that I had on the neff...
