Mrs Richardson has just sold her car as it was spending its days cultivating moss on the drive. "Add me to your insurance" was the order from SWMBO. "Just how much money do you think I've got?" I asked."Look, just do it!" was my darling's sweet reply.

I duly phoned the nodding dog, and my premium has gone from £37.40 a month to a,wait for it, whopping £31.95.

That's right! It went DOWN!

So not only is she now driving my pride and joy, but she is officially less of an insurance risk than me. Smug? nooo...she not only looks like the cat that's got the cream, but also the keys to the dairy and knows how to work the milking machine!

Always add your other half to your insurance whether they drive it or not, partners on a policy are less of a risk to an underwriter than a single policyholder.

That's true for kids as well. Both OH and I are on our daughter's policy, even though we are not very likely to drive her car.

I have been telling my husband this for ages and he wouldn't have it!

Just finished putting me on his insurance,(I'm afraid I pushed him into it by phoning the insurance company17 today) and they have refunded him £9.54. It would have been more but they charge a fee to amend the policy details.

When me and OH got together I didn't have a car so after a while it made sense to add me to her insurance and for years it was used as a stick to beat me with ! I've added you to my insurance blah blah blah it costs to put you on it blah blah blah . I've offered to pay but no it's ok . Then when we got married I found the original insurance adding me cost her a whopping £5 then it's decreased year on year .

Insurance is a law unto itself.

Adding a spouse can save you money as, has been previously said, people in a relationship have more "responsibilities" and hence more likely to be risk averse.

Adding parents to a child's policy (assuming of course they may actually drive the vehicle) can reduce the premiums as "mum and dad will nag the kid to be sensible so that the car is Ok for when they drive it"

Job title is another weird one. Depending on the insurance company I use I am either an accountant, company accountant, accounts manager, finance manager, financial controller.

(And if your wife says "see, its cheaper with me on, thats because we are better drivers" just reply with "no..now they know we are married, they think I deserve some kind of reward" )

I recently told my son to get a quote to add hubby to his policy after reading this thread quote was £700 and that was EXTRA.

The world of car insurance is confusing. You can get different quotes from the same company depending on which comparison site you use. The quotes also seem to go up if you apply through the company's own website.

After hours of researching I've just knocked over 25% off my renewal quote so pleased with that.
