Look what I found in my garden 2 weeks ago,a birds nest on a rubbish pile we were going to take to the tip.You can just see the nest behind a bag of compost,it's only built it in a old decorating tray. There are 5 egg's in it now,it look's too low on the ground to me,as though a cat could jump up at it.Does anyone know much about bird's.

At Hawes this last wek a Blackbird built a nest on top of the rear tyre of a chap's Motor home. Sadly he had to destroy it (the nest that is) so he could go home

Got a Blackbirds nest in the hedge right alongside where I park the car on the drive.

There's only about a foot between us so just hope with every time I'm in and out with the car, I don't scare her away.

The eggs have hatched now, so the parents will be working even harder now feeding..

We had a Blackbird build a nest about 6ft high up near the top of our conifers, then the heavy snow came and destroyed it, such a shame as it was a beautifully made nest, but hes now returned and built one in the rose harbour about a metre off the ground and quite open, and has just hatched a clutch of eggs.

The big problem for us is that we dearnt let our dog out into the main garden for fear she would scare the sitting bird off her nest, or the cock bird from gathering and bringing in food.

We also have a Jenny Wren nest in a pile of old roofing tiles, and a Robins nest in one of our boxes, but the best nests of all are up on my Dads farm with a pair of partridges in the paddock and a woodpecker raising a family in a big old ash tree, and raiding the birdfeeders for seeds and fatball to do so.

You have all made me a bit inferior. I built a nesting box a few years ago but nothing has ever moved in. All that the birds want to do is rob the interior for their own nests

Birds can be very picky where they nest Lynles, we have several nest boxes up yet only one of ours has ever been used by the Robin. Some like a certain diameter of entrance hole, others prefare a box facing a specific direction, depth matters too, and TBH we get more insects nesting in our boxes and birds popping in to feed on them than we do to nest in them.

We have lots of Blue tits and Goldfinches in our garden, but non so far have used the boxes other than to feed out of, we did have a pair of greenfinches nest in a single spiky conifer a couple of years ago and later in the year we get a family of Dunnocks nest on the Conifer hedge from about June onwards, where as my Dads bird boxes get fiercly fought over by competing breeding pairs of tits and finches all looking for a sheltered place for their young.

He also has swifts and swallows nesting in his outbuildings and garage, although he got tired last year of having to clean up after them in the garage when they regularly left their waste all over his car, garden furniture and workshop, so any returning to nest in there this year were in for a bit of a suprise, he had installed an automatic electric up and over door, which remains firmly closed except when he needs to take his car in or out!

What amazes me is how birds make something so perfect. It takes basket weaving to a whole new level

We have a nesting box mounted on a tree behind our garden, nothing nests in there because of squirrels, they destroy any birds nests..... well not all of them... I think the owls nest a few trees away is safe
