I have them in my greenhouse! They've burrowed under the paving slab just inside the door, so I have to tread carefully. I was alarmed at first, then did some research, and I've come to terms with the invasion - just take it very easy when I go in there. Bees of any sort (except rampant killer types, which are mercifully rare!) need all the help they can get - they're our main pollinators. I reckon if I let them stay in my greenhouse, they'll come back and pollinate my tomatoes when I plant them in there - so we've both got something out of the situation!
------------- Always edited for sloppy typing - when I spot it!
We have problems with ants, but only for about 2 or 3 days each year. Apparently these ants migrate each year from one nest to another, sadly for us the migration route is straight through our living room!
When it first happened we got pest control round, because we didnt understand. he put some traps down, which didnt make much difference. Then one of my neighbours told me about the migration route into the nature reserve at the back of my house.
We just have to accept them and leave them alone. They just walk through and find their new home. They dont walk back the same way though!?
------------- Never look down at anybody....
.....unless to offer a hand, to help them up
We had bees in our garden border 4 years ago and like you we were alarmed. By the end of the summer we loved them the nest was extremely near our patio table and we sat watching them work. Not once did the bees bother us, the children or the dog even when I weeded right by the holes.
We have spent the last 4 years hoping they would return and have 2 bee boxes in the garden but they have never returned.
