Yes saw that, we have outside chance of snow in Somerset, sheeesh. 1/2 a month's rain in a day apparently. Joy.

Just saw on the met office weather forecast that we can expect ground frost up here next week. Hope that might mean we might see clear skies

We love camping and love our new caravan in Mid Wales but were so fed up of the rain, cold and grey weather over the last 2 years that I booked a weeks holiday in the Algarve to recharge our batteries and remind us of what nice weather is like. Sunshine is such a tonic!

After last summer's washout we booked a ten day holiday in Lanzarote hoping for some sun.We have just arrived home this weekend. The first six days were grey cloud and a cold wind.We just can't win.

I have booked one of my camping trips this year for the first time - normally I wait to see what the weather is doing and then just go. At least now the weather has time to realise I am going to be on holiday and organise fair weather for mid June on Exmoor

Last year i got sick of the rain and went to Majorca for 14 days,it rained for 10 and was cloudy for 3,can't win

virtually given up with uk based hols not used the van yet this year really cant be bothered with the hassle of getting somewhere and paying out good money to sit watching the rain come down.no fun at all anymore.
had a week in the canaries mid april 30c every day absolutely loved the sun and no cooking driving or cleaning..bliss !!
looking overseas for june now...unless something better is forecast here weatherwise

We have no choice but to stick our tent up and down in the wet, hail,snow and wind. We are in the marquee business. I did get my shorts out for Easter but only because we went to the Bahamas.

We had the sunny week away 2 weeks ago, friend's cottage only 24 miles from home. Best week we have had for years.

the best part of a camping or caravanning holiday used to be 'making the most of the outdoors' and meeting fellow campers/caravanners on site. We can still do this!
no such thing as bad weather just poor preparation. we always carry thermals, waterproof trousers and jackets and walking boots! We use a porch awning to keep wet clothing in and even enjoyed the snow in the Peak District in March, absolutely stunning!
We also take books and magazines, a board game and ban mobile 'devices' for emergencies. We don't have a TV in our caravan and rely on the radio (usually avoiding news and weather info).
try it for a weekend.....you'll be amazed by how relaxing it is...being off grid.... I digress..
back to the weather....which we all love to talk about.
can anyone explain to me...why on beautiful evenings when the sun is out, are so many people inside caravans watching tv....hey you can do that in the rain!

I agree.................and disagree! Yes, poor weather can offer fun and relaxation, and cosy snuggles, and board games etc etc etc. but when you get that a few holidays in a row, especially when your "normal" life is spent under a flurescent light in a dim office this can become rather depressing. I am not a fair weather camper, enjoy camping in all weather but I am truly depressed and scunnered this year! We all need sunshine to lift our spirits - and I dont mean a heatwave,
I just mean a decent period of brightness and warmth.

It's not just on here that folk are scunnered with the weather...Anyone I know or work with is too...No one is asking for a heatwave lasting weeks(we would get sick of that too)Just a few days of settled warm(ish) weather with a chance to ditch the jackets and coats and feel warm for a day or two would be nice...Lifts every ones spirits when its nice..

Oh heck...I think I have just depressed myself never mind you lot........

In part you are right. Majority of us do have the correct gear, clothes. It is relaxing, listening to rain while being warm and cosy. Spending time reading ect.

However, When it rains 24/7 while camping and rains every time one goes. It does become rather miserable and depressing. It really does make a bit of a difference when the sun come out.
I am not a fair weather camper either. I have camped out in all weathers, including snow.

Just back from the Algarve and a very quiet holiday with no TV. We had sunshine every day and I can't tell you how much it lifted our spirits. It also does you good physically. We both feel we can cope better with the bad weather here now we have had a weeks break from it. It was lovely to be able to go out in shorts and t shirts instead of jumpers, warm coats and boots. It didn't cost us much as all we wanted was some sunshine and didn't need to spend a fortune.

I don't mind some rain when camping - warm clothes, wet gear.
HOWEVER - when it rains 24/7 without as much as a few hours break, with everwhere sodden, then it becomes a bit much, especially time after time that you have gone.

Locally yesterday it was 8 degrees.

Everyone is fed up of their winter clothes.   It is the middle of May, not March.

I am not surprised that people are going abroad for a bit of warm weather.     We don't seem to have had may bright but cold days, and as for warm days, they seem to be a dim memory at the moment.
