Just turned the radio on, local station and its brass band time.

Made me think about when i used to go camping as a kid with mum, dad and whoever fancied two weeks at par sands in august. We always went to the pub at the entrance to the camp site on an evening to hear a local brass band in the beer garden. Even as a little kid i loved that.

It never seemed to rain the whole two weeks. Every other day was a day out somewhere and if we timed it right, on one of our weeks the fowey regatta was on. How i miss those days. Life seemed so less complicated, we appreciated the simpler things (still do) and life was so much more enjoyable.

We stayed at Lanlivery near St Austell about 6yrs ago, and we took our dog Monty there every evening for a run on the beach, I can remember the park next to the beach.

It was lovely there, we sometimes stopped for fish and chips on the way home at the chip shop close by.

We spent our honeymoon in Fowey and spent every summer there for about 6 years after......

Cornwall has got to be my favourite holiday destination...

Not Val's Place round the back by the railway line. That one was there when I was a kid and as a tradition me and OH always go in there for chips and pasty or whatever when we go through.

its still there,dunno what name its got,but we go par beach nearly every weekend,its great our dog sam loves it,combine it with market world or zip up the hill to fowey...how scenic is the beach,when you look at the clay docks at one end....hahaha

I was told that the locals use the beach at Polkerris, not Par. Par is too mucky. Sand dunes don't seem as high and all the huts are gone. Mum and Dad stayed in one before we were born as that is what you spent your holiday in, caravans were luxury then. We love that walk over the top to Polkerris. Remember one year we could see the fire brigade on the hill trying to put a fire out in the gorse.

One of my funniest/happiest childhood memories is staying in a static caravan at Par Sands, when I was 11 (1977!!!).  My Nan & Grandad an our old labrador (Lady) came with us (Mum, Dad, brother and sister) and we had a week of wonderful weather.  My sister was chased by one of the swans on site and she's been petrified of them ever since!  Loved the pub there, although as kids we weren't allowed inside.  I remember sitting outside (being seen and not heard - LOL!) drinking hubbly bubbly!!! Now that really takes me back.

My love for Cornwall started then and in 2000 we were lucky enough to up sticks and move down here (Bude).  Not looked back since.  Often when we're out and about that way I smile when we drive past the statics at Par Sands.

Happy days indeed Kimmie!

We were there last week Kimmie, the chippie is still the same but the site has changed now. No Touring field any more, or, if it's there we couldn't find it. My OH used to holiday there with her parents every summer when she was growing up and she wanted to go & walk round it to see what she remembered. A friend of ours has a Static there & they love it.

BB - my brother did the last ever week of camping at the touring bit. Its now very posh mobile homes. Pity the beach and harbour view are such a let down.

My parents first went there in 1956, and every year after that, and with us kids. We continued with our kids until the year it shut down for tents and tourers.

We go to the Ship every year for a lunch time drink as a tradition but its not the same, very expensive. Hence our tradition of visiting Vals chippie round the back just by the railway line for lunch.

Mum is no longer with us and we have many photos and happy memories of that site.
