Hi Gregster i came across this yesterday and yes your right the postcode is'nt great
http://www.carinsuranceexplained.com/car-insurance-explained/car-insurance-postcode-risk-list.html
But the whole of manchester and bolton is'nt great, whats this based on ?? is it traffic conditions accident rates ?? The catagory i'm in is as high as some rough parts of Manchester, yet we live in a nice area with a low crime rate.
My brother lives 3 miles from me in a in a catagory c area yet its a cheaper area to live in, he only moved their as he couldnt afford to live in the town he grew up in
Do you have any suggestions of what cars are cheap to insure ?

Has your daughter passed her test or not Bessie, I'm a little confused?!
Are you doing a sort of hypothetical quote based on possible cars and whether she has passed her test, or are you doing an actual quote?
Hi Traceyd no she has'nt passed her test yet in fact she's only 17 next month, but she starts a job shortly in Manchester which will be a nightmare to get to, i can take her most days as i also work their but on the odd days that i cant i need to get something in place, so it looks like intensive driving lessons and then get a car.
I'm just trying to work out all the cost the 1st quotes of 4/6k were just stupid, at that price it just isnt worth learning to drive and would make a limo cheaper to get to work, What i did'nt want was to buy a car and say their you go love happy birthday then find out the car was virtually uninsureable
No wonder their are so many uninsured cars on the road

I fully understand where you are coming from. My daughter didn't want driving lessons at 17 but just over a year later she got a job which involves her starting work at 5am, no public transport at that time! So I was getting up at 4.30am to take her to work and she embarked on 2 driving lessons a week and passed first time. We then had problems not only because of the price of quotes but the fact that many insisted on black boxes which had a curfew between 10pm and 6am - no use at all in my daughters circumstances. This is when someone recommended ingenie, she has a black box but absolutely no curfews.
Have you tried Citroen C1? We were told that was one of the cheapest cars to insure - in fact I googled 'cheapest cars to insure' to find out, worth a look. I wish you luck getting sorted, I'll be there again in September as my son turns 17, he starts a new job on Monday which is 2 buses away, one into town and one back out again. He's planning on saving up for a moped until he passes his test.

Hi Traceyd the c1 is the only small car i've not checked apart from a micra (she does'nt like them) i must of spent about 3 hours checking every small car in the autotrader this afternoon, The punto and polo comes out quite cheap, hope your son enjoys his job and good luck with your next car search

Hi Kate i've got the lessons sorted, £390 for 24 hrs tution i supose thats one advantage of living near a large city. The test will be paid by my daughter the lessons are for her birthday off all the family.
Hopefully it wont cost £720 but you never know.
Just noticed you have a camplet, i have to say i saw one in a shop in manchester and was blown away with how easy it was to set up and quality, what a brilliant piece of kit
