Mick of the colourful jumpers and wild hair, has passed away at 66. I always enjoyed his times on Time Team, the knowledge that he had was amazing. He made it all look so easy.
Always enjoyed him putting the brakes on Tony Robinson's flights of fancy during the programme. He never would be drawn into speculation about the finds.
Professor Mick Aston came across as a very down to earth man...And I am sure his students would have learned quickly from him both in the classroom and in the field...
Always had an answer for Tony and the rest of them when disputes arose...
I'm sure the team will miss him...As will I...
RIP Mick
Jelboy.

Archeology can sometimes be a boring subject but I thought that Mick Aston really made the TV programme 'Time Team' much more interesting in the way he delivered the conversation very much the same as Fred Dibnah did regarding his interesting projects on steam power and the by gone days of engineering in general. It takes a special person to make any form of history interesting and Mick was certainly one of those people and I'm sure that he will be sadly missed by many. ....RIP Mick.
Yes a very sad loss. So down to earth (excuse the pun) from his Midlands roots. No airs and graces, just a love of his work and a keenness to share his vast knowledge. Not your typical academic, and like a wee boy in a sweetie shop when something special was found.
RIP Mick, I will always wonder if the 'dumbing down' as you put it of Time Team a couple of years ago broke your heart.
