I have used Keepvid and Snipmp3 to download videos, the second link allows you to convert the video into an mp3 audio file.
Only thing is a lot of the official videos are copy protected so can not be downloaded and the copies (eg home made ones with lyrics etc) the audio quality is poor.

Any good screen capture software will do this for you as most allow you to save the audio into any common format.

If you can play it freely on your pc from wherever I don't see why you can't stick it on a CD. If they didn't want you to listen to it they shouldn't have made it free to listen to now should they?

MovAvi should suffice!

I agree with a previous poster,..using the free youtube downloader is probably the easiest way.
You can convert the files to audio only (mp3)which would also let you put them on an mp3 player as well as being able to listen to them on your laptop.

And import them into iTunes if you want to play them on iPod//iPhone/iPad!!!

Take care when trying to import them into iTunes as sometimes itunes cannot find the tracks that you have downloaded from youtube. Actually you do need a license to convert cds into mp3 format files for commercial use. This is called a Produb license.

On another point if you are playing music from your laptop and other people hear the music this is considered to be a "Public Performance" therefore a PPL is required. The only exception if it is a private party where no admission is charged and only guests have been invited.

Unless you have the permission of YouTube, whoever uploaded it and whoever owns the copyright of the material, then it would appear to be taking something without consent.
It's in breach of YouTube's terms, so clearly they're not giving consent.
