Good for you sister having te wedding that she wants.
Currently we have an aunt who is moaning about my sister in laws wedding - it is at the wrong church just for starts.

When we got married our original plan was a very small wedding with just immediate family as guest - ended up with around 100 people there.

Sounds fantastic!!

Best wedding I've been to was with two weeks notice, an emergency stag/hen booze run to france and catered for by the local Chinese.   We ate, drank and were very merry!   We also remembered why we were there; to celebrate two wonderful people get married; not whether she had chosen the most expensive dress she could find, or whether the flower arrangements were all perfect!!

It was wonderful and your sisters will be too.   Best wishes to you all!!

Sounds like it's going to be a great day.

Our wedding was our way to our budget too - we camped with friends and family, hired a bus to take us all to the registry office for the ceremony, then back to site for the first real 'wedding breakfast' I've ever seen (wedding was 1030, so we'd not really had chance to eat before we had to leave ... so we got the griddles out and did full english for everyone!).  Then we had a party in the evening in a big party tent with food we had done ourselves (it's great fun catering for 40 people out of 3 caravan kitchens!).  The day was cheap and cheerful (very cheerful), all the dogs got to join in too instead of having to stay at home on their own, and out friends still talk about it!

I hope your sister has a fantastic day.

Ah, I hope your Sister, new Bro-in-law and all invited have a happy and memorable day.

Perhaps one of the best weddings I went to was a big one with all the trimmings (of its day, not as lavish as now) was one where all 100 guests were asked not to bring gifts but to help in other ways. A few friends bought and arranged the flowers, many cooked their favourite food to share, another team paid for and dressed the room, some clubbed together for the disco etc. One friend who claimed to be a poor cook with no idea of decorating or making pretty stuff nor having any money, was the co-ordinator who ensured it all came together perfectly.

The bride was a Christian lady, wanting a church service but the agnostic groom wasn't entirely uncomfortable with that, so the vicar very sportingly and clandestinely announced, "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the sight of (winks and points Heaven-wards) 'you know who'..." Brilliant!

For my part, I provided the bridesmaids, my three little sisters, in dresses I'd made. Everybody there said it was the best wedding ever because they felt involved and had all got to know each other in the planning.

Our wedding cost $60 for the lisence & spent about $300 at Walmart for food & drink. It was in the MiL living room infront of family & freinds. Whole wedding bit was done & dusted in 5 mins & we then deep fried a Turkey & sat out side drinking til the early hours... great day & 1000s cheaper than the last one lol.

Hi miss baritone, my daughters wedding on 20th of this month in Lincolnshire, and much the same as your sister, is having the day their way. Registry office wedding for close family, then back to her MIL's garden for a hog roast and knees up. They've borrowed my Cabanon for a beer tent! lol. No "oneupmanship" No debt. Just their closest friends enjoying their day with them. As my daughter says, The most important thing is that they are married.
Hope your sister and her new hubby have a wonderful day. Im sure it'll be perfect for them. xxxx

Sounds like they are being very sensible, doing things their own way and to a budget.  It also sounds like great fun.

Weddings can become a competition about who has the most expensive dress, the poshest venue etc. etc.  All meaningless IMHO...some people seem to lose sight of what the event is supposed to be about and get carried away, spending a fortune in the process.

What matters is that the couple are marrying for all the right reasons, are having a wedding that they will enjoy and hopefully, they will have a happy life together.  End of.

Hope it all goes well and the weather is fine.

she has just come up with another great idea. My nephew Kyrian (her son) is 1 that day and she has decided that she is going to carry him down the aisle instead of a bouquet. How special and meaningful will that be

A wedding is "YOUR DAY" family and friends come to help you celebrate, they don't dictate.
We are celebrating our Golden in November and we had the wedding that we wanted not what other people wanted.
Good Luck to your sister and her future husband, i hope they have a happy life together.
