and in reality if campsite owner sees strange TV licence salesman plodding around their site, i am sure that they will be ejected with appropriate size 9's
How on earth would they prove that someone is watching TV at your home address.
BTW if you tell them to get lost, what can they do as they cannot post a "fine" to pitch 7 on the campsite because they will not have your home address.
Campsite owner cannot pass on the details otherwise they will be contravening the Data Protection Act.
Just a big scare tactic hoping to fleece money out of some poor unsuspecting soul
i went for a job once at the company that does this - not for the TV licence part i hasten to add.....it was an absolute shambles...glad i turned it down
the "tv licence people" have no rights and they are just licence salesmen/women
They can and do prosecute people as it has been reported in our local paper before, I would imagine that they mostly act on tip offs, so if someone reports that you are going camping with a TV and were able to give details of where you lived, where you were going etc, they would send people to the house and camp site to investigate.
I would also imagine that they use the database which lists who has paid the fee and only target the addresses with no record of having a TV license.
I believe there are also times when they can and do have to provide information about people staying on site, I know that hotels have to keep records of residents for 6 years.

Please we would be obliged if you could give just one example because as far as I am concerned, it has never happened! As for sending someone to the house and some to the campsite, do you really think they have the resources? Not sure why you even mention hotels a it is the hotel's responsibility to have a TV licence. But thanks for giving us all a good laugh!
