So if the dog can only go in one direction how does it get back again?

How many directions can a dog travel in at once anyway?

As a dog owner I am happy to have dog free areas, provided that there is an area for dogs - that way people should not complain about the dogs being there - they can go to the dog free area.

I always clean up after my dog unless he chooses to go in that totally inaccessible spot behind the bushes in the local park. Really annoys me when people do not pick up after their dog, because it only takes a minute and gives all dog owners a bad name.

Don't get me started on rubbish - every night our local beach is littered with bottles, nappies, and general rubbish from the lazy sods who have been enjoying the sun but can't be bothered to put their rubbish in the bin or take it home.

So why can't you stop your dog going behind bushes. Out of sit out of mind. What about the poor grounds keeper who cuts the bushes in the park or the kids which mit be playing hid and seek or the kids looking for his football which he kicked behind those bushes by mistake..In high unemployed why can't the government put some money aside for street cleaner. Why does it take a big sporting event before this country gets cleaned up or a royal visit.

We stayed at Dafarn Rhos on Anglesey, at Lligwy Beach. Dogs allowed on the beach and another secluded beach accessible only by foot, following footpaths to Dulas.  Didn't see any dog poo on the beaches but there was plenty of rubbish left behind.

As said above, fair enough to have areas where dogs aren't allowed, but equally so there should be areas where dogs should be able to have the run of the beach, a swim and a good exercise. My dog loves water, putting him on a lead on the beach would be pure torture.

I also hate to see dogg mess left behind as it is something I would never do - but some of the rubbish left on beaches could be far more harmful to the environment, the likes of disposable nappies, aluminium cans, plastic bottles, etc. Surely if we all have the same amount of respect for each other and the environment everyone would be happy.

Our local park has introduced a traffic light system, red areas where dogs aren't allowed at all, amber where they are allowed on a lead and green where they are allowed to run free. I've not been down yet to find out where the areas are, it should be a good idea if done fairly.

Sorted! Going to a campsite near Allonby on the Cumbrian coast. No restrictions there on dogs at all. The campsite warden there was mystified when I asked her about these restrictions, no such thing on the Cumbrian Coast. But there are less people there, and less crowded beaches.

So Wales won't be getting my tourist money this time. Like I said, I can understand it on crowded beaches, but there is usually a no dogs policy on the popular beaches anyway.

LOL at Bernie!!

Allonby, lovely little village, you must visit Twentyman`s for an ice cream, best in Cumbria some say.

Jax - there is a campsite in Holyhead called Llanfair Bach - it is C&CC but open to non members  - it is basic but right next to Penrhos beach which has no restrictions.

All the locals use it for their daily walks and you can let the dogs off on the lead.  It is right next to the nature reserve which has a couple of small beaches of which non are monitered or have restrictions for dogd.

Hope this helps

As a responsible dog owner and grandparent I am more than happy to accept dog restrictions on beaches,in parks etc.

I get annoyed though when we are in an area where dogs are allowed off lead to be glowered at and told my well behaved, gentle dogs should be on leads! Woolacombe beach N Devon have it just right in my opinion, Area 1 No dogs, Area 2 Dogs on leads, Area 3 dogs can run free.

People who don't want to share the beach with dogs are well catered for, so it would good if they kept off 'our' bit!

Check dog restrictions are legal. There's a beach in Northern Ireland which has 'no dog' signs all over it but yet it is not legally valid. There's an action group called Dog Lovers NI who are doing their best to get the 'no dogs' sign removed. link to action group

I think the majority of dog owners pick up after their dogs but what about the broken glass, the rubbish, the used nappies etc on beaches! When my son was little, now 16, the first time I brought him to a beach there was a used sanitary towel bobbing about in the water next to him. I was so cross I couldn't even take my little boy for a paddle!

Responsible dog owners should not be discriminated against, unless you ban everyone that lights a barbecue and buries the embers for some child to walk across, or someone who leaves their babies nappy behind, or someone who throws their wrappers at their backside.

Very true. Irresponsible people with be irresponsible. The signs saying 'no dogs' should be replaced with ones saying 'No A/Holes'.

That said, modern dog culture does worry me when out with my kids. I spotted 2 illegal dangerous breed dogs on a popular a north Wales beach a couple of months back, one was off its lead. That worries me more than dog poo.

Barmouth is classed as N Wales and dogs are allowed on the beach(es) although some restrictions apply
