RIP Andrea Antonelli Superbike rider who died of his injuries in Moscow, race should not have started in my opinion with 3" of rain water on race track and no sign of stopping. A young life taken from us
Not heard about this but sounds bad. Sadly these major sporting events are more about big business & money than sport & human life.
I know the competitors have a choice but the pressure to perform is huge.
They have a riders representative, but I suppose if they want to race, and keep their jobs they go. Would have expected the leader of race to put hand up in those conditions and then the race is stopped
a sport involving the racing of motor vehicles, especially cars and motorcycles:they claim drag racing is the most exciting motorsport
As for the lead rider stopping the race, that can only happen if the race was started as a dry race and it started raining. This race was started as a wet race so no chance of that happening. The only person who can stop the race is the race controller, which he did - after the crash. Looks like his crystal ball wasn't working that day.
My sympathy to all involved.

------------- As I've told my psychiatrist, you can't have too many tents.
Racers are racers, no matter what the weather is. Unfortunately it is down to race bosses and officials to call off a race. And with sponsors and TV companies wanting value for money, races usually go ahead.
Its a dangerous sport, and the riders ALL know it, if they wanted to avoid racing they could always get a desk job.
Very sad loss, and I still think they shouldve cancel the race.
