A59 is by far a much more pleasant route. We travel it often with our van without any problems even going up on to Blubberhouses Moor from Bolton Abbey. You can avoid Harrogate (which can be a drag with the traffic through the Stray and past the Show ground.) Imagine Ribblesdale, Wharfedale, Blubberhouses Moor, Nidderdale, Vale of York - what more could you want? Look at a map about two miles out of Harrogate on the A59 and there is a left hand turn at a roundabout on to the B6161 to Killinghall (Boarded up pub on the right of the roundabout). This turning is signposted to Ripon (A61). Drive into Killinghall as far as you can go and at the junction (A61) turn left to Ripon. Next Roundabout at Ripley turn right to Knaresborough (B6165). (If you turn left here there is a grass car park on your left which caravans can get into and there are loos.) Anyway the B6165 is the road that takes you to the CC site at Scotton (called Knaresborough CC site). Keep on this road for a few miles till you come to some traffic lights in Knaresborough. Turn left and immediately you come to some more lights and turn right and go up the hill into Knaresborough Town Centre (A59) .Plenty of room with a van in tow Keep on that road through the town to more traffic lights - straight on and just keep on that road out of the town until you come to a roundabout after about two miles. Turn left on to the A59 to York. We used to go through Harrogate A59 to the Stray and then down Wetherby Road A661 past the show ground and Sainsbury's on to a roundabout turning left on to the A658 but there is too much traffic and its slow, especially if there is something on at the showground! You can be burning your clutch! Much better through Ripley Have a safe Journey Phil
