We've had a really big problem with the clocks changing this year. Mainly because it also coincided with half term. So because it was school holidays, we were a tiny bit more relaxed about bedtime (maybe by half an hour) plus it was like daylight outside.

We have blackout blinds, but that doesn't fool them, Nd they can still see that I'm sending them to bed when it's perfectly light enough to play outside.

I totally agree with the overtired thing, and my kids sleep far worse when they are are over tired, and far better when they're not.

For example, I know a few people on here say that they let their children stay up later when camping, say until 10pm, so that they sleep later. I know we can't do that, because they turn into whirling dervishes if I do that!!! And they still get up at the same time. So that option just doesn't work for us.

We are away right now, but when I get back, I'm going to go 'back to basics' with our bedtime routine, and be really strict with it. But I am going to add in a 'reading in bed to yourself' time for my six year old, because she has just started doing that, and I'm happy for her to do that, as long as she still gets to sleep at a reasonable hour.

  Have you thought about his diet. Things like cola with caffeine and processed foods with additives. These can build up in your system and lead to problems with relaxation and sleep.

How about those relaxation CDs you find at garden centres? Lavender pillow spray can help too.

We had a similar issue with our son who just did not need much sleep.
To ensure he did not become active through the night we:
Put up black out blinds and lined curtains.
Cut out stimulating sweets and drinks.
We never eat late evening.
Relaxing bath to start the wind down.
Reading before bed.
Stick to a routine and this could take months!

And now he's a teenager I've got to drag him out of bed!
