You plan for your holiday & then the sites not how you remember it. The tents were on top of each other with no space to park between tents. Our daughter is now 14 so too old for going on the playground. For that reason we asked for a pitch as far away as possible from it. The people in the next tent had 2 kids who were very well behaved, however a child of about 5 kept coming over to call for them at all times of the day. If they were busy or eating we had to put up with this child playing (usually singing) right outside our tent while he was waiting. Why don't parents check what their kids are doing? Oh, & don't get me started on the kids who made the information kiosk their den so no one could go in it!

I'm sorry you didn't have a good time and I would hate to go to a site with tents so close. But I don't agree with you getting cross over a child playing. If you don't like small children then avoid sites with a playground!

The child who was playing was not from a tent anywhere near to us, he was from a different field. He was certainly too young to be left to play alone with no one keeping an eye out for him.

Child safety at a campsite is a I interesting one. It seems to be the only place where people revert back to a old fashioned sense of parenting. One where kids do get a bit more freedom a chance to make friends and sort out friendship disputes for themselves.

I do not think their behaviour should impact on someone else's holiday but a child singing on a family site would not cause me any concern.

Hi just a comment on the above, having camped with hired tents and with our own tent for many years I would always prefer to use our own tent simply because if I don,t like where we are we can just move on, also when pitching the tent we would not put it anywhere near the hired tents. If I could give some advice it would be to buy your own tent and enjoy camping on your terms because it is a great holiday and a great way to REALY get to know your kids

i never book sites, just turn up and if busy move on, that's why now I use the caravan club sites, I've been on some sites where the tents where pitched with the guy ropes across the front of the van and when asked if they would move, get a blank expression till they are told I would be moving the van early next day, and I would drive over if they don't.

just to add my opinion to this post we have just returned from our hols where we had similar problems. now don't get me wrong I have 2 children of my own who love playing outside and making new friends but what really niggles me is the parents who open their tent in the morning and let their children out to play and then shout them back in at nine at night and hope that they are still in the same field. when all said and done its great for children to revert to the good old days and play outside and make new friends but we also as adults have to be cautious about who else is camping in the field with us we would all like to think that nothing can happen to our children on holiday but in this day and age things do happen just because we are on holiday doesn't mean it wont. please just be aware of where your children are and who they are with.

Children are lovable and fun when they are your own or playing with you own. All other children can be an annoying distraction. Children need to be cared for and controlled.

I certainly don't see why I should avoid sites with a playground. Children should respect others.

Just to add my two penny worth 'Old fashioned parenting' referred to earlier doesn't work in this day and age. A lot of people are wary of children because you don't know what their families may do, I know I am.
A simple request such as playing a bit more quietly while waiting for your friends, could be met with their irate Mum & Dad, a load of verbal abuse or a punch on the nose!

It seems most of us can only remember the noisy children who seem to be allowed to go where they like and when they like with no obvious parental control, sadly never the good kiddies who are having a good time as they are not generally on the radar as they are enjoying themselves without being in your faces or tents.

I would think the annoying kids have parents that don't come on this forum or they might realise who they are and how bad their kids can be, or there would be a revolution on here!

One little girl on the site where we are now wakes us up around 7.30 every morning riding round and round the site shouting and happily playing. Lovely to hear but at 7.30 am?!
