Frustrating when someone trundles along in the outer lane of the dual carriageway at 50mph for miles and won't pull in. The only way past is in the inner lane.

The scariest situation I experienced was when overtaking in the outer lane of the dual carriageway at 70mph. A car entering from a road on the right had crossed the other side of the carriageway and was waiting in the centre to turn right. Then from a standing start he suddenly decided to pull out in front of me into the outer lane going at about 5mph. I had no time to stop and couldn't pull over to the left because of the traffic I was passing. I squeezed in somehow, but it was a close thing.

What is it with some lorry drivers that they want to overtake each other but can't because they are each doing their maximum speed?

I got stuck behind two yesterday on a long section of dual carriageway, one was trying to overtake the other but couldn't and they were both side-by-side for several miles with a long line of traffic building up in both lanes before the overtaking one decided to drop back and pull in behind the other one.

Then there was another one tootling along in front of me at only 38mph on a single carriageway section of the same busy road where I had no chance of overtaking, however when he came upon a slow moving tractor further up the road he suddenly found the power to speed up and overtake it and get several hundred yards ahead, though by the time I'd overtaken the tractor the lorry had slowed down again to less than 40mph; I'm sure he was doing it deliberately.

I've always had the greatest respect for lorry drivers and found most of them considerate when I want to overtake and pull in again afterwards but quite frankly some of them are complete a***holes!

"Then there was another one tootling along in front of me at only 38mph on a single carriageway"

The speed limit for an LGV in excess of 7.5 tonnes on a single carriageway is 40MPH.

I agree about the lorries overtaking on a 2 lane road. For the first time in France we noticed signs saying 'no lorry overtaking' on some 2 lane sections. A good idea here sometimes.

Then you get the wider vehicles (tractors, lorries) which sit astride the central line out on country roads preventing anyone behind from overtaking. They pull in when oncoming traffic appears but before you can nip past they are out again.
