Best December experience was a holiday in Egypt. Sun from morning til night, and the Christmas decorations went up overnight on the 21st Dec just as we were leaving to fly home. Brilliant to escape the madness at home.
Erm, I have just had my delivery from Studio cards today. currently sat on our fireplace is a solar owl wearing a santa hat as we wanted to see which parts lit up.
And yes, I have started my shopping...sorry folks. I must be one of the few people who don't mind shops getting things in early, or the cheesy songs. I hate crowds so doing my shopping early, for me, is a bonus.
At first when I see all these things on sale I panic and then think to myself....get a grip....I only have about four or five people to buy presents for and I usually buy online anyway.
For a couple of years our family made Xmas cards for each other, it was great they were so different, my son (33) still does, he and his girlfriend make most of their presents too.
I wish people would think about the things that really matter in life instead of being swept into this 'material madness' that seems to be the way now.
When we got married - August 25 years ago - the hotel we had booked for the reception were in the middle of a series of "themed" weeks.
The theme for the week of our reception was Christmas. The room we had booked for our reception was superbly festooned with decorations and complete with a magnificent Christmas tree. The staff asked if we wanted them removed for our event - not a bit, we replied, would give a talking point. It certainly was. 25 years on people who attended say "oh yes, you got married at Christmas, didn't you?"
Not sure what our response to the hotel would have been if we had been married the week before - it was Mexican week!
And yes, I bought my cards and crackers in the sale just after last Christmas, and have bought the first Christmas present (a pair of socks embroidered with "stinky feet" - had to get those for my son and I mightn't see them again)

When I'm in charge of the world and everything in it, it will be illegal to display any Christmas merchandise, marketing material, broadcast or publish Christmas-themed advertising or have Christmas decorations up before 1st December.
It goes on too damn long, and makes it boring when it should be fun.
I'd have similar rules for Easter, hallowe'en, Nov 5th and lots of other events that get hijacked by commercialism.
Well, I'll vote for you!
Someone told me today there are 100 days left until Chrismas. For goodness sake, we've just got back from our hols!

It sounds like the real spirit of Christmas and I think you're absolutely right.
