Why does everyone look orange on the soaps these days. Their skin colour is just so bright it looks odd. Is it also contagious as it started with Coronation street cast but has now spread to Emmerdale. I don't watch the other soaps so not sure how far it has got.

Actually, I think it is something to do with HDTV and they method makeup is applied.. They are given a sprayed layer on their faces with a foundation that is suited to high definition cameras. In the old days, pre HDTV makeup was applied with a sponge using powder to tone down shiny skin. You ladies will know all about that stuff,
I did think it was my television but some of the characters are still normal colour. It is a new television and was set up on delivery. The orange colour has appeared over the last few months even with old television. Interesting about the make up maybe they are being sprayed and it comes out like that.
I first noticed it with Michelle Keegan and then some others. Last night it had spread to Charley Webb and amazingly even Sally Dynevor was orange.
Mind you I got a letter today saying my eye test was due.
Possibly your TV. I can't remember the last time I went to someone's house or a TV shop and saw a TV that was set up correctly. Usually skin tones are the first to go.
But the fake tan look does seem to be big these days, even with the lads.
If it's only certain characters in certain programmes then it can't be your tv, if it was everyone would look like that. I'm inclined to agree with the make-up theory, especially if some of the actors have been away on holiday and got a fairly good tan. I know Michelle Keegan went away a while ago and came back very tanned, as did Jack P Shepherd and a couple of others, so that's probably a lot to do with it.
As they used to say in the 'olden days' when picture quality was lost, do not adjust your set!

I don't have a TV, but to be fair it sounds like TV is merely holding a mirror up to society. A wander any Cheshire town on Saturday confirms that orange is de rigueur.
When I saw Coronation Street after a 25 yr gap, I thought it was nice that they had so many Indian actors in it. Turned out they didn't it was just the heavy make-up and fake tan.
