Hi royce, have a look at your bank account, an upgrade will give you free insurance plus other benefits.

Cost me and the wife £68 for 4 days Travel Insurance in Spain.I just turned 61 and have some pre existing medical conditions as does my wife. I can't even get a quote for annual ins. We have never made a claim for anything in 40 years of travelling abroad.

Turned out we were fortunate a few years ago to have gone for a bank current account with add-ons, including worldwide annual travel cover up to age 69.
Since that, I had health issues resulting in 4 ops. After each I rang them and they noted the file and wrote to confirm. No problems.
To be fair:
1. The ops solved my issues. I'm sure their response would be different with an ongoing, chronic condition.
2. The account costs £12.95pm, so we're paying, one way or another.
The other main benefit is UK car breakdown cover, home or away, whatever vehicle the account holder is in.
For us, it's worth it.

I find travel insurance a farce too! Not only does one get hammered for being over a certain age but most don't cover a couple of nights' bookings and then one gets hammered for living on an offshore island.
The one I have through my bank is useless for folks like me - even the staff at the bank admit that!!

went through the motions on the Halifax site, of which i am a customer, and the caption comes up in red " sorry we cannot insure someone of your age", glad to have all my money in their bank though, and that one advertising on the telly is just as bad, S***sure by name, meant to cater for the older person. Yeah !!? found one for £47 the best i can get.

I didn't say it was a good deal, I said it worked for us.
Me 64 soon, a colostomy, ileostomy, reversal, and two hernia repairs.
Add in breakdown cover, and other benefits.
It may not work for you. That's why I didn't say it would.

I took out travel insurance for a week in the USA, with cover4you, it was the cheapest I could find, £34, I am 65, have high blood pressure, and type 2 Diabetes.
My son also used them as he is Epileptic £28.

Yep, we now take out Travel insurance, and have never bothered in the past, but now we are both just past 50 we thought it was time to start.
So we now pay £36 for a couples policy, which covers us for 12 months at a time.
Got the info of "Money Saving Expert" website.

If statistically older people didn't get health problems more often then premiums wouldn't cost more.Old people get ill. It's a fact.
Francais's post says it all really. They got old(er) so the now started taking out insurance.
We have all had the benefit of the cheaper years. I'ts just the other way round to car insurance.
At a cost of £10k after a heart attack in Spain old folks wouldn't want to be without it.
