Hi everyone
I've just seen some Gordon's sloe gin t'asda.
Has anyone tried it?
Is it any good?
I've only ever had home made before, and it was very nice :) so just wondering if it'll be any good?

Slightly off topic but i had some slider cider while in thr newforest this year.It has to be the best cider i have ever tasted so enquired about getting more.
It turns out its made from using sloe gin berries being put into the cider brew after they come out of the gin brew.
Smooth isnt the word.I tasted it at a summer fete and while buying asecond helping a couple came up and commented how they only came to the fete for the cider, a mere 2 hour drive but that worth it.
I can see why, it really was that good.

I have some sloes in the freezer ready to make sloe vodka and wondered if you can make it with honey instead of sugar?

Anne...yes you can.
Once you have pricked the sloes, cover and coat in honey. Leave for a day or so, cover and coat again and then add the spirit. Shake daily for a month, leave in a warm place for 2 years, bottle, label and leave another 2 years.
Purchase crash helmet and soft landing mat, open sloe gin and taste.

Lol thanks for replies. I wouldn't know where to start making my own.....I don't even know what a sloe is?
Hahaha first time I tasted it was cas54 off here brought some to a meet and it was yummy, then last year I bought some from a small speciality shop selling homemade wines, liqueurs etc.....that was very nice too, so when I saw the Gordon's it got me thinking....
Maybe time for another meet with cas54 :)

If the sloe gin tastes like Pimm's, then there is something very very wrong with it.
It should be mellow and tasting of plums, like slivovitz.
From the first sip you get a warm mellow feeling throughout your body

Perhaps it should be spelt "slow" vodka!

You can make a mighty fine gin-thing with damsons - too late this year, but worth a try next summer. After they'd been in the gin I chucked them into some amontillado sherry, and made damsontillado! Not bad at all. (hic)

Making your own Sloe gin is fun and costs much less than buying it ready made. We look for them when we're away camping and label the bottle e.g. Shrewsbury Sloes, which reminds us of the site. Though we can't find Sloes every year hereabouts, seems to depend on weather - I keep an eye open for the frothy blossom in Spring, and go back later: just after the first frost gives the best coloured Sloe gin. We just pour out of the original bottle with berries in. "Used" berries go into venison casserole. Waitrose magazine has a cocktail with 2 parts sloe gin to 1 part Martini Rosso, dash of Angostura Bitters, ice & lemon slice - not tried it yet.
I can recommend making Raspberry Whisky - bottle half full of rasps, fill bottle with cheap whisky, you don't need to add sugar as the fruit is sweet, keep until Christmas and enjoy - it's pink and smooth, delicious even if you don't like whisky (the whisky taste disappears). Had a glut of eating apples and made Apple vodka - kilner jar full to the top with apple pieces, add vodka: it's golden but quite lightly flavoured of apple, rather than being a Calvados substitute. Damson Vodka is delicious. Made our own Kir / cassis too, when we had blackcurrants - again, cheaper than buying, and fun to make.

Didn't think much of the Gordon's, to be honest. But then, we were comparing it to my friend's home made version and she's been doing it for years. I think it's probably like most other things: homemade is best!
