Last night was exceptionally late for me but I am rarely in bed before 2am. Like Geoff, I spent years doing shift work and even though I have now been retired for 11 years it's difficult to get back into 'normal' sleep patterns. I also suffered from the effects of doing 6 x 12 hr shifts and 4 days off. Did that for around 30 years.
We did 2 days, 2 backs, 2 nights.

I retired a year ago and am just beginning to get a better sleeping pattern, I do still have the odd late night going to bed around 2am ish..but still get up at 07.00am every morning and resist having 40 winks during the day and that seems to get me back on track.

I sympathise with those still doing shifts its no good for man nor beast!
