I keep hearing that people have somehow managed to convert Tesco points into discount ferry travel but I have no idea how to do it.

We've accumulated a lot of points over time with Tesco so I'd like to make use of them to support our trip to France in mid/late June this year.

How do I go about it?

Many thanks

David

why not use the tunnel instead, we've used it for the last 4 times and it's so much easier than the ferry.

I think you can only use the tunnel for a channel crossing? Just go to the clubcard site and exchange what you want . £10 gets you a £30 email voucher.

On Tesco website click clubcard then travel, then transport & go from there. You can only use Eurotunnel to cross the channel but you can use vouchers for Irish sea crossings & also Harwich to Holland. Its a good offer on Eurotunnel as its worth 3 x face value of tokens. ie for a £120 return crossing you use £40 worth of clubcard tokens.

It might help to go on the Eurotunnel site first and have a look at which times you want to go and return, this will give you an idea of how much it's going to cost so you'll know how much in tesco vouchers to exchange. You then exchange your vouchers on the tesco site and they email you a code. You then phone Eurotunnel to book your train stating that you wish to use tesco code and the salesperson will take you through the process, if you haven't enough value in tesco vouchers they'll take the rest from a credit card.
The tunnel phone no. is 01303282061, much cheaper using this number. Hope this helps

David, a quick look on Eurotunnel assuming you have a caravan leaving mid June and returning 2 weeks later shows outward and inward journeys starting at £114 each way and varies depending on what time you cross.

We too took advantage of Tesco's vouchers for Irish Ferries in 2013, i.e. £20 worth of vouchers converted into £60 towards our ferry booking. We were travelling with another couple, who asked us to book their travel at the same time.
I booked theirs first, (2 retired and one motorhome), then I booked ours using the vouchers. Their booking came to the same amount as ours! We are also 2 retired plus motorhome. When you use the online booking form, there is a tick box for using vouchers, this seems to fire up a higher price.

I felt that we had been misled into believing that we would get £60 off the price that our friends had paid, but not so ! We travelled at a time when there were no "special" offers by Irish Ferries, thereby invalidating the vouchers, but all we eventually got off the price was the original £20 ! I complained to Tesco that I would have been better off using the vouchers instore for £20 worth of groceries instead of trying to get a supposed £60 off the ferry booking, but they virtually ignored my comments.

However, do try the Irish Ferries website, and see what comparisons you can come up with, both with and without vouchers.

With Eurotunnel you have to book by phone to use your Tesco code so you can check full cost of your booking online before you phone & you do pay only one third of that full price.

DFDS Dover Dunkirk & their other routes will also be accepting Tesco vouchers soon apparently. Not on Tesco website yet though.
