My son is wanting X Box live which cost wise is not too bad bought on the right deal - the bit that is sticking in my throat is the wireless network adapter that we have been told we need.
Does it have to be an overpriced xbox adapter or can we buy a generic.
I've just asked my eldest son about this as he has Xbox live. Apparently no adaptor is needed. You just pay for your Xbox live subscription for the desired amount of months then enter the numbers on the card given with the subscription.
We have our broadband in the lounge and the signal is strong enough for xbox live to work in his bedroom.

apparently hubby says it depends on the which Xbox you have? Hubby's doesn't have it built in so he plugs his into the Sky on demand box using ethernet cable

The Xbox slim has onboard WiFi. The 360 needs a dedicated adapter. You can't use a pc usb adapter as there is no way to use the drivers. You could use an Ethernet cable to an old router in bridge mode.

Have a look a the TP-Link TL-WR702N, have two well worth the money. Has five different operation modes so should be able to be used to connect a XBox to a router by Wi-Fi. Also available on Amazon and in Currys.
Thanks for your help - he did move the XBox 360 into another bedroom for a few weeks when he had a trial of the live and just plugged straight into router using ethernet cable but he really wants to leave the x box in his bedroom so this isnt really an option.
