The Iron Giant, the ending gets me every time. Both sad and happy. DS used to love it and watch it all the time. It is when he learnt that Mum is a bit of soppy s*d where sad films, programmes and even adverts are concerned.

Books....Charlotte's Web..... this was the first book that I owned from new...(I was 8) and I sobbed my socks off when she dies! My Sister's Keeper made me cry too. And when Dobby dies in Harry Potter....less said!

Titanic - where the old couple are lying on the bed and the water is rushing in.
Miracle on 34th Street (1994 version) - where Santa is signing to the little deaf girl and her whole face lights up.
Apparently the little girl really was deaf and they hadn't told her that Richard Attenborough was going to sign to her. The look of sheer joy on her face gets me every time!

On a serious note, I love all of John Steinbeck's books and 'Grapes of Wrath' does bring me close to tears. The fragility of mankind etc. I've actually read it about 40 times, no exaggeration ....

"Who will love my children" based on a true story.
I have not cried so much, even my hubby would not come in the lounge and threw a box of tissues at me from the door way!! Very powerful especially one scene on the stairs.

Well today, I went to see The Railway Man, based on the true story of Eric Lomax, starring Colin Firth. There are many harrowing scenes and had I realised it would be quite so bad, I probably wouldn't have gone to the cinema. It was superbly acted, powerful and incredibly moving.

I was ok until it got to the closing scenes at which my floodgates opened! So much so, I just about pulled myself together before I got to sobbing!

Even so, I am so glad I went to see it, to me it was the absolute epitome of mankind's terrible,unimaginable inhumanity and conversely, mankind's incredible capacity to forgive.

Shadowlands and The Remains of the Day are wonderfully sad. It must have something to do with Anthony Hopkins!

Looking forward to seeing this film. We went to Kanchanaburi & the bridge and walked along the Death Railway when we were in Thailand, beautiful location but very moving being there.
