A friend of mine will be going to New Zealand in a few weeks time and is planning to do some camping. He asked me if I know of a web site to search for camp sites similar to the uk campsite one? Also if anyone has experience in camping over there and has any recommendations these will be most welcome. Who knows I may even do it myself next year. Thank you for any help.
Department of conservation, NZ has lists of all their campsites along with loads of useful info. Just google DoC NZ and it should come up. We used this along with the Lonely Planet NZ when we were there. He will have a great time.
My sister camped over there a couple of years ago and my main advice is if he is taking a ten with him it must be CLEAN, and i dont mean yea looks tidy i mean all soil has to be washed off no bugs in it no leaves etc as they will check it in nz and if they think its got anything ie mud leaves etc they will either a, impound and bin or b, charge him to clean it properly, they do this to ensure their eco system is protected

A friend has motorhomed around New Zealandand another did a tour on his motorbike. Campsites are generally better equipped, BBQ grills all over, you just provide charcoal.
I agree about importing stuff. The friend had his bike shipped from Nepal and after 5 months on the road, driving to Nepal from UK and India his bike had to be virtually stripped, cleaned and rebuilt.
Friends who moved there took their car from the Uk, that what was heck of a valet!
top ten as mentioned above we went last year for 5 weeks and did both islands many of the sites put our sites to shame each big town has a top ten and to make it even easier, they speak Englsih. A lady told me that spoke very good English. i thanked her and said that 60+ years' practice had paid off. Northern accent you see, no saff
