Julie, this happened to us 14 years ago, our son worked for an English company which took him to Germany, France and the USA.
While in the States he met and married an American girl, relocated full time with his job and doing very nicely. He has such a good standard of living over there, his son goes to a good school, we get free hols but his mother gets upset when it’s time to go. We would join him but we have commitments over here and it gets a bit chilly this time of year.
We stay in The Hilton at Heathrow the night before we fly, 8 hours and you are there. We had a long discussion before he went and we told him to go and give it a go, if it doesn't work out, come back. We know his life is over there now and we see him once a year but we have Skype and a free telephone number for calling him.

Congratulations on bringing up kids who are confident enough and independent enough to take life with both hands and go for it!

I can imagine it will be hard for a while for you, but I'm so proud of you for letting go! There's many who would cling, and bring up every argument against going, etc.

It was so weird waking up this morning to a very quiet house. He arrived safe and sound and is at this very moment having snow plough lessons from his future father-in-law!
Thank you all for your kind words.

Julie

So he already has his chores set out for him

I am sure he will love it, a mate of mine emigrated years ago to USA and he loves it. I suppose it depends on where in America though

Good luck to him and the woman he loves
