Anyone having problems with Google Maps. For two days it has been odd. the road names are up side down and there are odd random small blemishes on the map. The roads are not all named and it is just not right.
I have had it saved as a favourite for years and go in via the google map website www.google maps.co.uk. If I go in using .com it is fine. Any ideas why it has suddenly started playing up.
No idea.
But I do know that a couple of weeks ago, the new "improved" version appeared before my eyes.... and did I not like that. I thought I'd got to put up with it, in all honesty, but the other day, I find a "Revert to classic maps" button... Ah, that's better!
No idea whether this new version is having some sort of effect with you, Romaway... maybe worth looking into?
Romaway - could the problem be something to do with having the web address saved in "favourites ?
In the past I have had weird things happen when trying to open links from my favourites bar eg. Gumtree, Ebay, Met.Office forecasts.
Each time I could access the websites by opening from the Google box on IE where they appeared normally. Now when problems develop I delete from my favourites bar and put a shortcut on my desktop instead.
I think Giraffes is right, I have deleted it from my favourites now and have accessed Google earth and maps from search and saved it again and it is fine.
I have absolutely no explanation for this but maybe it's a "time sensitive" thing as in the past some of the items in my favourites bar seem to work for ages then one day they go haywire, perhaps some kind of update (?) but I discovered by accident that if I delete them from favourites but put a shortcut on my desktop this seems to get them back to normal.
On a lighter note - young grandson was "borrowing" my laptop in the living room once to watch a cartoon and having been left alone with it for less than 10 mins whilst I prepared his tea I returned to find he'd managed to invert the whole screen.
Everything was UPSIDE DOWN !!! How weird was that ???
Because he knew he was in for a telling off, he was found contorted on the settee trying to finish his cartoon and had planned to say nothing (they will NEVER notice) and it took me ages to stumble across how to get it back to the right way up.
On an even lighter note - I also have no explanation for a "change" that has happened on my laptop with this very website (UKCAS).
Right from the day I joined back in 2007 I've always had the full edit boxes across the top of the Post Reply box on every forum on here. The boxes that allow you to "bold" "italic" "underline" etc.
I would happily type away then go through my text and edit to my heart's content (like you do).
Then one day these edit buttons looked different - bigger and in outline not the solid small black icons I had always had.
These new buttons are now with me forever and they don't work so I can't bold, underline or italicise anything now as when I try I get a text box asking me to type in the text I wish to edit and a load of symbols that are meaningless to me so I have given up with them.
I have told Mods about this and they can't explain it.
On OH's older laptop the original format remains and I can post a reply in the old way.
Giraffes - Have you changed to Win8?? I have exactly the same problem after I moved to Win8, and to use any of the buttons - including adding a link or image - I have to run UKCS under the Desktop rather than native mode. I have not yet found a solution, and I have not experienced the problem on any other site.
When I changed to Google Chrome I had a slight problem with these reply messages in that the BI and U buttons were quite large and contained in little boxes.
I couldn't just highlight a word and then click on one of the buttons and it would change. I had to place the cursor in a space in the sentence where I wanted the word, then click on the button. This would bring up a window in which I had to type the word and then click OK. The word would then appear in the space where the cursor had been. It was a bit of a pain to say the least.
Since changing back to IE that problem no longer exists.
Bob61 - you got my hopes up there for just a minute.
I wondered if I had switched to Google Chrome without realising.
Your description of the buttons and how to use them is exactly how it is for me and as you say "a bit of a pain". I think I have been using IE, not Google Chrome to log on here so this doesn't solve my problem.
Glad to know that it's not just me and Delboya though.
Christine.
P.S. Just tried OH's Hudl and yes, it too has the problem (also only gives the option of using Google Chrome), so still no answer.
