Hi Tony and Gill.

What an outstanding challenge, and not only that you have inspired me to get out on my bike more.

I have done a few cycle camping trips from Manchester to Scotland via the Lake District, but my last journey was around 3 years ago, I just seem to have let life push my cycling time to one side, will make a point of changing that straight away.

Here is a photo of my mate Billy who joined me on my last ride to Scotland, which he decided to do on his Surly Big Dummy Bike, and in his own words said he won't be doing that again on the Big Dummy!

Keep it up you two ...
Next time ... bet you're already planning it! lol
Think of somewhere warmer!
I did the length of the Loire some years ago, and also the north coast of Spain and the Picos de Europa ... both fantastic rides, and full of memories.
You could do the famous Santiago de Compostela route.
Anyway ... keep safe, and keep going!

Well we did it. We arrived back last Saturday having covered 4,486 miles, mostly in fantastic sunny weather. It certainly gave me a perspective on the crazy variation on standards and prices of UK campsites. This website was invaluable for finding and rating places and in combination with the Camping and Caravan Club App on the phone we hardly ever looked anywhere else for sites. If you want to find out more check out the blog at www.gillandtony.co.uk

I do plan to do that but it's quite a task and there are others (like finding a job) that must take priority I'm afraid. I have plenty of notes and photos to jog my memory though.

Congratulations on finishing your trip! I'm most envious, last long trip we did was pre children, 21 years ago. We rode from Edinburgh to Argeles in France, it took us three months including all the stopovers and diversions, then we flew home. We did it on a Dave Yates tandem with a Yak Bob for the camping gear. I came back from that trip pregnant too so that was the end of the long trips on bikes, we're both too wrecked for it now.

Absolutely fabulous blog and well worth a read if you have a spare hour anyone. You have a real knack for writing Toekneep

Biggest thing I took from it was the overall feeling that most people are simply "good" people despite what we may read and get fed a diet of from our media.

Escaping the rat race even if temporarily must be HUGELY uplifting experience overall so congratulations

Totally agree - I have read it all this morning and loved every word.

Inspirational. I like cycling, but 4500 miles is an epic, life changing achievement.

Well done both of you and thank you for sharing your adventure with us
