Thankyou for all your kind words, l feel much better knowing im not alone in my experiances, and having thought long and hard about the situation today, im sure we have done the right thing for her. She was last seen by the vet in September, when in true Boxer mischief she managed to steal and chew up my daughters toilet cleaner block, giving herself a dose of D&V. Luckily the plastic bit was almost empty, so no long term harm done. Dont ask me why, but she always prefared to drink out of puddles, toilets, or the kitchen sink washing up water than her own fresh bowl of provided drinking water, it was just part of her mischievous ways.
Since September though, both us and our vet (who went to school with our Daughter, and had know Sassy all the time we have owned her) had noticed old age creeping up on her fast. Somedays all she wanted to do was sleep, and it took a lot of coaxing with tasty titbits to get her to eat on her 'off' days when her kibble would remain untouched in her bowl. She lost a lot of weight, but the tumour on her eye, which has proved to be cancerous, was only apparent for the last couple of weeks of her life, but almost doubled in size earlier this week, when we decided a trip to the vets was needed, and more drastic action had to be taken other than the TLC we had been giving her knowing she was an elderly dog who just needed a bit of extra comfort as she advanced in her years.
Im sure shes running free now, and has joind Zoe and all the other dogs waiting at the Rainbow Bridge for their owners to one day join them, im just so glad that we had the privalage of being able to spend some time together whist she was here on earth. Shes now going to be Cremated, and her ashes will be eventually scattered with Zoes and other family Dogs that we have owned over the years, on my Dads paddock at Ashbourne, its a really peaceful place, and only a couple of miles away from where our story began, and a place that l believe she would have been pleased with, having fun rolling in the countryside smells and chasing the birds as she had always loved to do, although she was never quick enough to catch any, especially after her crucoid ligament operation was performed, she was not allowed such boisterious activity as 'kidney bean' jumps that is typical of Boxers after that. R.l.P Sassy, we are missing you already, and you have only been gone 48hrs xxx

Thoughts are with you it's terrible when you have to say goodbye but at least she is not suffering, we lost our golden retriever Barney a year gone February and still miss him but I know he will be happy running free over rainbow bridge with his old and new friends.

Our two last dogs were white rescue Boxers, Mystie passed 2 years ago & Dempsey passed last week on exactly the same day, aged 13 & 11 1/2 they did well for Boxers. Both had problems early on & both lost an eye but they were loving & loyal & are deeply missed. Still find myself wagging a slice of ham behind me when raiding the fridge. We have both said we will have a summer of camping without a dog, which will be strange, going to places we normally couldn't & then rescue another nearer to Xmas. Funny you should mention the water, both loved rain water & it was usual for the tent to be shaking in the morning as they went round licking the dew off. Having had 5 over the years I can't imagine owning another breed & would love another but it doesn't get any easier when the time to say goodbye comes around, just be there with them, loving them & letting them know they are not alone, after all that's all they ever do for you. Our thoughts are with you & if you can bring yourselves to get another, go for an older dog that has calmed down & just likes strolls because older dogs need a home too.
