Inlaws just hired a box and bars etc from this place I went for the ride.

In Widnes not far from the bridge, and only 5 mins from Junction 7 of the M62, nice people, excellent Café next door, its worth going just to see the Café
Never understood the whole 'hiring roof box' thing.
£60 I was quoted for a week, after some hunting and scouring I found some genuine Ford roof bars, and a 12 month old black Exodus 360L roof box and paid £110 all in.
------------- As a child my families menu consisted of two choices: take it or leave it.

If your using one for every trip then it doesn't make sense, same as hiring anything you are repeatedly and regularly using. Normally my Discovery is big enough for us and our luggage, last year we were going away with the in laws, it made sense to hire a box for the luggage and them come with us rather than take their car too. Couldn't justify the cost of purchasing all the bits just to see it sitting in the shed unlikely to ever get used again.

So going away with the in-laws was that bad then?

We hired a roof box some years ago, it was very useful, mainly for discovering that we were glad we never actually bought one and opted for a trailer instead.
