Some of those tips are quite useful! I'm not sure about cooking frankfurters on the tines of a rake or roasting startburst sweets over the campfire . I've printed out the last on (knots) and shall be practicing later today when I get a spare minute.
Very American. Not all of us camp with fires. I can honestly say I have never wild camped in the UK with a fire. On a campsite....just bung on a firelog.
I have absolutely no need for cotton buds soaked in Vaseline.

I'm the opposite, but each to their own of course. Bear in mind that you can't cook over a firelog due to the chemicals on it :)

I have a collection of stoves for cooking on. A camp fire when wild camping is 1. Impractical to carry in fuel and 2. Downright irresponsible on dry moorland or forestry commission areas. On a site, it isn't for cooking on but for gathering round.

Some of those are rather fun! I have plenty of sage in the garden, maybe I'll dry some and bundle it up. Anything that might keep the mozzies away is worth a try. Like the idea of the wax-soaked cotton pads too - very useful.
