I have just received the 2014 Hoburne price list. They are charging up to £54 per night in July. Caravaning will soon be off the afford it list at this rate!!!

I don't go to these type of sites but would imagine they are holiday type parks with lots of facilites (pools, bar, entertainment, etc) - hence the higher price.   I know my sister paid £800 for a week in a static on a site like this and that was years ago.

You can get cheaper if you go for a more basic site.  Some sites still out there between £10-20 a night!

Their places do look a bit smart though, whats wrong with a field with a couple of draughty old bogs & showers?

Premium site with every facility in a premium location during premium peak period has to be paid for.

There are many other sites offering less for less money.

I have just read another thread on here stating that many sites were half empty over the Easter period...hardly surprising if those rates are anything to go by.

As stated...there are many sites that charge between £10-£20 even in holiday periods. Many sites charge the same all year round with no increases. They are the ones I prefer to spend my money on.

The reason we stopped going to Trevornick. I accept there are some leisure facilities there, but £5.90 a night for my dog, sorry, not happening!! I'd want his own shower and a walking service for that!!

Camping is a big new market for the commercial holiday sector with it's increasing popularity.

The prices are more than French sites with better facilities I've discovered. Luckily we don't we really do commercial sites. Although saying that take a look at warner farm part of bunn leisure. It's got the pool and all the entertainment and very good value. Just to add when we went if was about £65 for 3 nights non ehu in October This included the entertainment and pool passes . A family swim for use normally costs £10 so good value for us.

Over the years I've come to the conclusion that when sites charge this sort of money for dogs it's because they don't really want dogs - but dont want to say so.

Non EHU in October is not really a fair comparison with OP's complaint. Warner farm high season EHU is £47 per night for 2 adults 2 children. An extra £4 for a dog.

I found a crappy little site on this forum, cant remember what it was called, but, the nightly fee for 2 adults, 3 kids, 1 dog, 1 car, 1 trailer, EHU, and surcharge for large tent, was £72 per night. They had a small shop on site, and a playpark for the kids, free showers, thats about it.

I emailed them because I was sure that I had worked it out wrong, they replied that they would knock 5% off if I booked today, because they had plenty of vacancies My reply was "if you lower your fees you will fill more spaces". They didnt reply.

I find that you have to look around, work out what is on site, and how many of the facilities you would actually use.
I can on,y go away for one week this summer, as both kids have different Scout camps to go to, and on my chosen site there is nothing, but as it is right. On. Bala lake, weather permitting we will spend a lot of time just messing around on the edge of the lake, and I will spend time reading.

My ideal type of site. The main thing I take into account for a site is location, views and walks. Dog friendly is a must. I could do without all facilities except a cdp if need be, including a loo - i have my own. Same when I camped in a tent - we took a pee bucket.

Without ehu it's £42 per night and not sure what a dog has to do with it ? Considering the op was saying holberne is £54 that is a fair saving.
Having stayed at both sites warner farm is cheaper and better, facilities wise.

Either way you pay for these commercial type sites. We just had a 4 day break at west sands (next door to warner farm) on a cheap deal in a static. It suited us but not that keen on these types of sites if I'm honest. Prefer the less commercial sites where the kids meet others and socialise.

Why not pay a little bit more and hire a static caravan.
