If you are not drinking the water, unscrew it at the big end and take the carbon bag out and refit to your van. They are a waste of money.

We take the filter jug with us from home for the straight drinking water when we're camping - you're supposed to change that filter monthly, but we just change it when we start to taste the chlorine and smell the chemicals again. The water out of the MH tank gets boiled for cooking anyway - that pipe has a mesh filter for taking out particles and we just check that every year to stop it getting clogged up.

I agree with Jeff that they are a waste of money and also a pain when winterising the van as any remnants of water will freeze which then expands and have known to crack the filter housing. As long as you sterilise the water system annually you should be okay as bacteria will form inside the water pipes so it more hygienic anyway whether you drink the water or not. My caravan was originally manufactured without the installation of a water filter like many other caravans so they are not considered of any major importance.
