From using my 20ish year old free from Avon phone, I decided to go for a contract smartphone. It worked out cheaper than buying with pay as you go, factoring in the cost of the phone it works out at £6 per month for the package and I never hardly touch my allowances.
Booked myself two guru appointments with 02 and they sorted out everything and gave me lessons. Waited a couple of weeks and made a list of queries. They were brilliant and if I have any problems or need advice 02 phone me back in a few mins to help.
Have had lots of connection problems at home so they have upgraded me to 4g and no extra charges.
I could not do without it these days, I don't ever have to WAIT at a bus stop again and when I am on the bus or train, I can read my kindle on it! It tells me the names of the stars and the hills in the distance.

Geocaching with the kids is done via it.Im always playing scrabble with random people from across the world on it.Go in a shop and see something you like ? Scan the barcode and see where you can get it cheaper online.
Map my ride for cycling, heart rate monitor app records my heart rate when ever i like.
Emails, dropbox, photo editing and so much more all done from the phone.
And then there is the music. Yep not for everyone but once you explore what the real power of smart phones is its a whole new world.
Lockie..are you bothered with neck and shoulder pain, I can recommend a good chiropractor
Nope as it's a very useful tool not an addiction.
Far too many kids are obsessed with them though. But then again with so many parents setting the example it's to be expected.
It's the same with parents getting overweight and setting the same example health wise. 😟. Too many use technology as a babysitter instead of spending proper time with them and then wonder why they get unfit and overweight.
Smart phones have their uses and are here to stay, I'd rather embrace new technology than dismiss it.
I agree technology has its place and it is a tool not a necessity.
My mobile is for an emergency if someone desperately needs to contact me.
I play scrabble with family , friends etc using the old fashioned board game.
I use my computer in the comfort of my home and find the cheapest price for items and order online or then go to the shop if its cheaper there.
I don't want to check my heart rate, its ticking so all is good or so the doctor says.
I use my computer for emailing, storing photos which I take with my excellent camera.
I have an expensive sound system or an mp3 for music on the move.
Why do I need a smart phone???
I do not dismiss technology but I don't let it take over my life which I think we all have to agree is the case for many adults and sadly children who have become couch potatoes long before there time.
Exercise is not on the agenda!
To many spend half there lives on a mobile or xbox or whatever the latest gadget is.
Please don't take my comments as being against smart phone users but like everything else some people over indulge.

It is a fool who has to say something.
I love people watching, and one of the little things I have noticed about phone users is that when they are outside a pub and chatting on their phones is that they generally walk round in circles.
Usually it's 7 paces in one direction, then reverse the pattern. It makes I chuckle watching 'em!
