Why not try a trailer tent, these look like fun...but I'm strictly a tent person, but admitedly we only ever camp in France these days. We use dto go up o the lakes every weekend before we got the cat, then our lives changed and our singing meant lots of weekend concerts. We tried the lakes 2 years ago,,,,,,,,too cold, poor facilities compared to France, so we do 3 weeks in the summer and thats it..the rest of teh time its hotels.

Good for you. There's a lot to choose from but some brands are far superior to others. We have an Outwell Hartford L but never use it...far too big, takes too long to erect, so we use a modular system of two 5 X 5...suits us perfectly. Buying tents is fun. Never caravaned, as I was indoctrinated as a child, my parent were not keen on the idea, and prefered the back to nature approach. I can remember camping in Wales as a child and finding it odd how people in caravans just seems to stay by the caravan and do nothing.....of course this is a warped view, and most of the peole we meet caravanning in France are like us, up and off every day exploring. The one thing you will miss is a hard floor under you and the weather doesn't matter. Camping in tents can have its draw backs, but I do love it and hope you do. there is one this for sure, we will never be of the breed that seeks a concrete block (hotel) with a pool in some busy resort. We do meet some loevely people from all walks of life on campsites. I love to see young families giving the next generation such a wonderful outdoor experience. Wherever you choose to try it out, you must go to FRANCE, camping in France is fabulous......more space, big pitches, great facilities and sunshine

Have a chcklict to go through: Fabric weight (2000) Ventillation Zips Seam Durability General finish I would avoid brands like Hi Gear which is a bit like Regatta compared to Berghaus. Vango are, or certainly were a quality product. Outwell.
