It does sound like a cleg bite. Any time I've had a cleg bite it has been really swollen with rings.
The sight of a cleg and I'm off at full speed.

Poor thing - if you're still unsure, call the out-of-hours service (NHS 24). Wait till the evening/weekend and do that. They are obliged to treat your DD and not discharge her until they're sure of a diagnosis.
A few years back I had a small tender lump behind my knee. I couldn't see it very well but my daughter said 'It's just a bite' so didn't think much more about it. About a week later I was aware that the area around it was red. The red area continued to expand and my leg became sore so I went to docs. By then my feet were aching and I was struggling to grip with my hands. I had never seen a tick but the mark on my leg was a classic bulls eye as seen in Lymes Disease. I was treated with antibiotics (sorry don't recall which)and had blood tests. The blood test results were inconclusive however this is not unusual if you google the condition. I have been fine since I'm pleased to report.
Hi, thanks for all your replies. It definitely isn't ringworm, there are holes! The doc looked up all the info on ticks as I had mentioned I was worried, including the pics which looked very similar to DDs, and said that as the blood tests are often inconclusive he would treat her rather than be sorry later. There was no sign of ticks though, and pics of horse fly bites I've seen on web look similar to one of the bites but the other two had very definite rings. I suppose she could have both types of bite? Is treatment for horsefly the same - web just mentions antibiotics.

The pen is mightier than the sword - but only if the sword is very small and the pen is very sharp...
If I get bitten by a horse fly I can have swelling the size of my hand. I also swell with mosquito bits but not so bad.
I find anti histamines help but make me very sleepy.
I was bitten by something in Spain a few years ago. Initially it looked like someone had thrown a dart at my ankle. A few hours later in the middle of the night my leg was swollen from toe to half way to my knee.
I was shocked when the pharmacist said probably a spider!!
Ibruprofen, anti histamine and hydrocortisone sorted it

Did the Dr suggest horse fly bites? I got one of those the other day and they are right nasty They can end up with red rings around them, because they often get infected. Google horse fly bites and have a look at the pictures.
I agree. I got 2 horsefly bites at Graffham the other week. One of them had a big red ring round it, about 2.5" in diameter, and a hard yellow-white lump in the middle with what looked a pin prick in the centre of that. The other was not as big (or so I'm told - it was somewhere I couldn't look at it).
I have never heard of tick bites without the ticks. But on a walking weekend in Dorset last weekend, a farmer warned us to take care in the grass as there had been a glut of ticks this year and he knew folk who had been bitten this year.
As we are out all day it is sometimes necessary to take a comfort break in the shrubbery, taking my shewee in future!

They are definitely bites, not ringworm or anything like that, and now have a big red ring round them. They're definitely something other than mozzy bites, or perhaps infected bites although we have been putting antiseptic and other stuff on since she got them. I will look around at hospitals but not sure where to start.
I meant your local A&E, not a hospital specialising in Lymes Disease
Sorry to the poster above but Please dont use your local A&E for this, unless seriously unwell. As a health professional I can tell you that A&E departments are struggling to cope with things that can be sorted by a visit to the GP or out of hours service.
A repeat visit to the GP surgery should do the trick. See a different GP for a second opinion. :)
