Hi guys
Wonder if anyone can help, my 10 yr old son was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes & is currently on pen injections, we are travelling down to the south of France in August for 3 weeks & wondered if anyone had any hints or tips that they have done whilst travelling with diabetes?
We will have a fridge once pitched so in I'll be able to keep spare insulin in there for him & have got a frio bag to keep his insulin cool whilst travelling, would it also be wise to have a frio bag for his regular insulin in his pen as it gets so hot out there? Also how much extra (over & above the norm) would you pack?
Our pharmacist said to take copies of his scripts as we would be able to buy over the counter should we need too with proof of his needs.
Also the hypo stop syringes, would you take extra? We will be very rural on the banks of the dordogne so if he went unconscious with a hypo I don't expect an ambulance would be very quick coming, but how many do you take? Do the sensor strips & ketone strips struggle in the heat also do you know?? And we have been advised to stock up on glucose tablets as I believe they are even more expensive over there?
Thanks in advance for any hints & tips.....
