This reminds me of going to Great Yarmouth as a young child. I was bought my first ever stick of candy floss and I was excited watching it being made. Then about a quarter of the way through I went to the toilet and my dad held my candyfloss. When I came back he'd eaten it! He thought I didn't like it apparently!

There used to be an Italian ice cream parlour on the seafront at Hastings, I think it was called De Marco's, my Dad and Mum used to take us kids on a Saturday for a Knickbocker Glory, they were the next best thing to heaven.

As for fresh fish we also used the little fish market on Rock a Nore, but sometimes we would drive out to Dungeness where there was a man who not only sold fresh fish but also the most delicious fish and chips.

We are lucky here in Jersey, loads of all types of fresh seafood, but no good for my gouty foot!

Scarborough still has its original icecream palour complete with all the mirrors and decor of the 1950s. It is now called the Harbour Cafe, and although most of its trade is from the take away traditional whipped icecream cones with a multitude of flavours to choose from, it still has the internal bar serving those Knickerbockerglories, Choc and Nut sundaes, and Banana Splits ect. They manage to stay open all year round, and keep the winter trade going by serving sandwiches and toasties, as well as a wide selection of hot drinks, including the more traditional ones like Horlicks and Ovaltine, Bovril and Hot Chocolate, which were always firm favorites back in the 1950s.

Most of our shellfish gets exported to Europe. Its a quality product and they are happy to pay for it.
But a couple of years ago we were on Orkney. Wife ordered langoustines in a pub on Stromness docks and I had a steak. Her plate came with eight massive langoustines about 9 inches long and as thick as a courgette. With local boiled baby potatoes and a side salad. All for £11.99. And locally caught.
