Does anyone know if the cat worming tablets you can buy in supermarkets are any different (chemically) to the ones the vets sell?

Every time I take our cats to the vets, I get fleeced for a 3 figure sum and the tablets alone cost some stupid amount. They are much cheaper in the supermarkets and normally, medicines are pretty much the same thing, just with different, pretty labels on.

Don't know about the supermarket ones, we never get Them from The vets we get them online from Vetuk,and never had cause to complain.

You can get the vet prescribed ones from the Chemists much cheaper.

But hey - that link from Josey is even cheaper I think!

The worming tablets from the supermarkets are definitely not as good or as safe as the Veterinary ones

Dont use tablets. We prefer the liquid spot on that is placed on the back of the cats neck. Its far easier for both us and the cat.

You can check for yourself herehttp://www.noah.co.uk/ type the name of the drug into the search panel.
Look for the drug name rather than the packet name and contra-indications and warnings should be available.

In addition, I've seen the evidence - my daughter's kittens were wormed regularly before she got them with supermarket wormers.

I have never actually seen such large worms come from such tiny kittens!   
They were in a real state :-(   

Three days on Panacur liquid and they were sorted. It kills both the worms and the eggs/larvae - which supermarket wormers don't do ;-)

Chemically, they are totally different.

My vets will sell me the tablets without taking the cats in, they just ask the size of the cat and give me them accordingly. You can also buy panacur from Pets at Home, if you cat has a bad dose this is excellent.
