Don't tell the pharmasist!! Fortunately the chemist i went to explained to me and was still prepared to sell them to me when I corrected myself and said that my hayfever had been particularly bad
Bailey has been really itchy since I used his latest flea spot-on (long story for another thread!) so as the vet has recommended piriton in the past with my other dogs I thought I'd pop out and get some. 'Is it for you?' I'm asked, 'Well no it's actually for my dog!'. So she has to check with pharmasist who was very nice and explained that legally they are not licensed to sell medication for animals and asked that when I go back to my vet to tell them not to ask for it for your pet.
So, if your vet suggests it, and incidentally it is totally safe for dogs, when you go to buy it say it's for you/your husband/wife/son/daughter - anything except your dog!!

ha ha...I had similar when I went to buy a particular brand of nipple cream for our guinea pigs who had some sores on their skin...
Asda pharmacy wouldn't sell me some hydrocortisone cream for my daughter the other day because she is only 8, despite her getting it on prescription which I get from asda pharmacy...
I also have trouble getting hydrocortisone cream even though I have it prescribed and when I queried on how a pharmacist (not my normal one) could doubt it and a doctor doesn't I then threatened to walk out he called me back and sold me the offending cream. I have also bought antihistamine tablets for my dog but the pharmacist (my normal one) then recommends which one to get for him.
Our dog has piriton he has mild hay fever and keeps snorting in this hot weather
The vets say dose as a child

and five nights in the one man tent!
There's no question it's safe for dogs, I've used it for many years, I was just suggesting you don't tell the pharmasist, or assistant, that's it's for your dog as they may refuse to serve you.

The pharmacists are funny and I agree- don't tell them it's for your dog. My dog takes piriton too- half a tablet however many times a day it says for a child. It doesn't make my dog drowsy-mores the pity! She's generally hyper.
I agree! I asked for a little bottle of iodine to put in my medical box, but they wouldn't sell it to me when I said it came in handy for the dog as well.
TBH both Piriton (chlorphenamine) and Hydrocortisone cream are now GSL and available off supermarket shelves without the need for a pharmacist. Hydrocortisone cream cream is available at Savers and bodycare but its called bite and sting relief for just over a quid.....problem solved
