We have never insured any of our cats as they've never needed work done that adds up to more than what it costs per month; the premiums also hike up when they get to a certain age. However, each dog has been insured - the rescue one had to have her tail docked after she broke it (£500+) and the previous one cost us £hundreds for her cancer care because M&S didn't take the direct debit for the insurance and it lapsed. And if a dog causes an accident you can be sued so you need 3rd party insurance, whereas a cat is considered a wild animal outside. BTW, get a collar for Rupert and write a phone number on it - our microchipped cat was run over, died in a neighbour's garden and was taken away by the bin men: the neighbour thought he was feral.

Superbbird - Not tricky at all, I'll just ask how she is and that I understand they have a young dog but haven't seen anyone take it out, and say that I have fed Bobby once or twice as he was hanging around. She's quite approachable.

There a 'nut case' next door to her who just goes away fro a weekend and doesn't leave any provision for her cat.

Grrrrr, see they wouldn't leave a child unfed, so why leave an animal. It really makes me cross.

Sounds like a plan bobcat10.

I know what you mean about irresponsible people, whether it's animals or people/kids. Other thing really upsets me is when you hear someone's pet has passed away and an idiot says something really hurtful along the lines of "it was just a cat/dog/bird........"

To me pets are part of the family

Both Robert (Bob) and I are passionate about our animals they are an integral part of the family. Robert lured me back to his lair 24 yrs ago, to see his French Lop. I knew then that I would be with him forvever. Sam passed away when he was 9, what a fabulous creature...he had a litter tray in the cellar. We then bought Basil, who was a mpanion to our then first British Short hair Burberry. Burberry passed away  2 years ago. We were devatstated by this loss as I can remember taking him as a kitten to my mothers nursing home, and of course my father RIP loved coming to see him as he grew up.  We lasted 2 days, then I was on the phone to the GCCF for a recommneded breeder. the house wasso empty without a cat around...anyway my therapy was looking after Lynns menagerie, and it worked,..they knew I was upset and I have such a close bond with my neighbours cats.  We found a breeder, but I couldn't holda full conversation without breaking down, I couldn't say his name for months. We have his ashes and his picture in the lounge.

Anyway the next chapter -  The breeder we found in Northallerton fully understood so she invited us over to see the latest litter of which there was a spotty tabby but a girl, we were so taken with them that we reserved two. A mackerel tabby silver boy and a siver spotty girl. A girl at work recommended two, and she was so right..they are great companions. the girl is Leonitara Darling Daisy and the boy Leonitara Beau-Benjamin.  We were so lucky, as they were ready to collect mid July but we had booked a much needed holiday, the bereavement of Burberry and Roberts father had passed away  the week before.....so the breeder said ttake them and bring them back while you are away...so they had a holiday too. I was concerned that the bond mayu be affected, but it wasn't. Daisy and Benjamin are 2 yrs old on May1st...adorable , affectionate.  Every time I see a tin of Whiskas (which they do NOT have) I asee benjamin staring back at me, and Daisy is identical to the kitten on the latest Whiskas advert. They both eat Royal Canin dry, and Applaws chicken, Tuna.......never give them bunny for obvious reasons.

They are ourfocus of affection and it is reciprocated. I don't waste me time with people who dont understand.

Rupert had his vaccinations yesterday & profender spot on for tape worm. They sold me 3 pipettes of Advocate flea/worm stuff for £25(!) and said they would need to weigh Rupert each time before letting me have more as it's prescription only. They were really pushing their monthly health plan at £13.50 a month which would cover his booster vac & flea/worming but also a lot of other services I can't see myself using like nail clipping. They also advised against frontline as it doesn't really work anymore.

I was wondering what other folk use on their cats for flea prevention.

Thanks
