As already said get your gait checked out and buy shoes suitable for you otherwise you will end up with shin splints or tendenitis ? like me.
I bought some NB ones for £30 from tk max when i started and thought they were perfect as they were £80 running shoes trouble is they were neutral shoes, but i actually needed structured shoes, this resulted in my shins hurting when i run, the difference was unreal when i changed to the correct shoes my legs were fine and my running pregressed easily.
look at doing park runs in your area, there free to enter and are brilliant fun, A distance of 5k / 3.2 miles, their designed for runners of all abilitys so you get runners doing it in 16 mins right up to 1 hour. best of all nobody gives monkeys who turns up its just for fun, When you cross the finish line at the end your time gets recorded and position so you can see online were you finished, your position in your age catagory or sex. Dont worry if you cant run 5k some people run and walk.
Just noticed your in wigan they do park runs at leigh pennington flash every saturday morning 9 am i think around 150/200 runners do it now
