Door handle prices are just... scary. I'm amused to see, however, that the 1950 aluminium drawer and cupboard handles the RAF deemed suitable for their married quarters way back then are still available! Just goes to show, keep it long enough and it comes back into fashion. Means I have authentically retro kitchen fitments - including the little mesh-doored meatsafe built into the cupboard by the back door, of which I am quite fond. Not that I keep meat in it! Packets of seeds, mostly...

Don't know where you get your doors. I've just bought a repro "Victorian" internal door, and even a cheap one was the best part of £100. The drawn brass hinges weren't too expensive, but I'm having to trawl through antique shops and reclamation yards for a lock and handles. If I'm lucky, it looks like about £20+ for handles and key escutcheons.
I buy most of my building materials from a local merchant. A lot cheaper than Travis Perkins & B&Q.
A decent repro door would have cost around £350.

Avoid b&poo for most things, cheap it isn't even with the trade point card.
If you can borrow a selco card they gave some nice decent handles.

Prices of doors vary massively.Im refurbing our house and our doors are all different sizes. Trying to find a range that had all the sizes and also a glazed option in 44mm firedoor thickness was difficult.
I found one range i liked with all the options i wanted and at £130 wernt too bad, the glazed option of the same door was over £400 though !!
Ive ended up making them myself from a solid core door blank from howdens. Ok a bit of work but made a router template so i can route them easily and exactly the same but working out at £80 a door instead.
Im able to hang them so no extra cost apart from the ironmongery.
Solid core thick internal doors are the business if you have kids. Thet insulate against noise well and can take the knocks.

If you have a joinery company local to you, give them a ring and see if they have any "left-overs". Sometimes they may have bought/been supplied too many for a job but for whatever reason have been unable to return them to the supplier.
